The 200-room budget Corona Roja is a 15-story tower in Playa del Ingles made up of studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments with balconies and great ocean views. The Corona Roja is older, with basic decor, but the location, near beach and town, makes it an ideal spot for tourists who want a sunny holiday for a low price. Most of the limited amenities cost extra (although there are some all-inclusive options), and there is little programmed entertainment. Rooms are seriously dated, with tube TVs (that often cost extra) and teeny-tiny showers, but property perks include three pools and a lovely roof garden.

Basic, sometimes odd decor, with lots of space, sun, and cactus gardens
The Corona Roja is eclectic in an unintentional, thrown-together way, with beautiful cactus gardens and landscaped pathways through the grounds, then non sequiturs like a statue of Napoleon by the front desk and one of Elvis twanging his guitar in the bar, which happens to have an indoor pool in the center. The vibe is relaxed and has a decidedly budget feel, with a hodgepodge of lobby furnishings that include a red British phone booth, mint green wicker indoor-outdoor furniture, an ultra-modern piece of wall art, and a full array of brochures, pamphlets, and other tourist advertising.The restaurant decor is humorously dated, with rustic touches like farm implements, rifles, and barrels scattered around, as well as rock formations and walls and old wood here and there. Floors are covered with linoleum, not tile, but there is some pretty mosaic tile work on the walls and windows. There is one restaurant and only one bar, but the surrounding area teems with nightlife and restaurants for guests who are so inclined.

The Corona Rojas aparthotel is in the heart of busy Playa des Ingles, surrounded by hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, and other tourist bait. The quiet, pretty beach is about 330 feet from the hotel. Maspalomas Beach is a 10-minute drive. The hotel sits right off the highway, and there is some traffic noise.
Rooms
Simple, basic, clean rooms with kitchens and phenomenal balcony views
Rooms at the Corona Rojas are basic, outfitted with the bare necessities, many of which -- like the beds (and poolside sunbeds) -- are screwed down. Everything is spotless, and views from the furnished balconies are pretty. Room decor, however, is not. Apartments are decorated with simple blue bedspreads, curtains, and upholstery; the furniture looks a little sad, walls are bare, and bathrooms have some of the tiniest showers we've ever seen.Use of TV (no flat-screens), Wi-Fi, (large) safes, and hair dryers costs extra. Noise from neighboring rooms or the nearby highway can be a problem; the higher the room, the less of a problem this is.

The Corona Rojas has a supermarket on-site for guests to stock apartment kitchens, as well as a buffet restaurant and a poolside bar that serves primarily, if not exclusively, local wines, beer, and liquor. The buffet restaurant serves routine, uncreative food, but there's plenty of it, and there is an a la carte menu for guests who are not all-inclusive or who want a change.There are two outdoor pools and a small indoor pool (oddly in the bar), a playground, and a newly resurfaced tennis court. Sunbeds and umbrellas surround the pool, but they are not all in good repair, and many lack cushions. A jeweler and a perfumer have set up shop in the lobby for those who want to bring home souvenirs.
