Bottom Line

This 249-room hotel with flashy decor, an outdoor pool, and lots of bars became part of the Royalton family in late 2017. The new trendy-looking Park Avenue South outpost adds lots of nightlife to its largely corporate neighborhood, but only time will tell if the owners can successfully reprise their hotel homerun.

Scene

A trendy-looking hotel that aims to bring downtown nightlife to sleepy midtown

Scene Royalton Park Avenue

The Royalton Park Avenue, on Park Avenue South at 29th Street, sits among office buildings in a bit of a no man's land between Union Square and and Midtown East. The idea is to bring a slice of glamour and nightlife to an otherwise sleepy (at nighttime) neighborhood, though this hotel is slightly more mature than the original (think fewer neon lights and a separate entrance for those arriving only to party). It's hard to say just how many bars this hotel has, because many of the nightlife areas run into one another, but suffice it to say there's an impressive amount of space in which to party -- the Plunge lounge that runs across the top floor of the hotel and out onto the pool deck; the rooftop sundeck-cum-event space; the Blue Room and the Red Room -- the list goes on. The hotel has been hosting A-list events since before it even fully opened.

Location

In a neighborhood full of office buildings, but close to several of New York's best sights

The immediate area surrounding the hotel is full of office buildings and take-out lunch joints, and the hotel provides some of the only nightlife in the neighborhood. It's also only close to one subway line, but the hotel is walking distance to sights including Union Square, Madison Square Park, and the Empire State Building.

  • One block from the 6 subway line
  • 5-minute walk to Madison Square Park
  • 9-minute walk to the Empire State Building
  • 12-minute walk to Union Square
  • 10 to 15 minutes by subway to Times Square and the Theater District
  • 15 minutes by subway to Central Park
  • 16 minutes by subway to the Museum of Modern Art
  • 17 minutes by subway to Wall Street
  • 20 minutes by subway to the Metropolitan Museum of Art
