The Fox Inn

The Fox Inn is a typical English pub, occupying a charming two-story 17th century stone building. It's located in an exceptionally beautiful natural setting next to the Windrush River, with a large outdoor patio area and covered dining area overlooking the water. The atmosphere is one of a cozy country pub, and many locals come here for their daily pint. The old stone building has retained many of its period details, such as exposed wooden beams and a stone fireplace; the rustic-style furniture made of solid wood adds to the quaint look. The Fox Inn is more a pub offering rooms than a hotel with an on-site restaurant -- the pub is the soul of the property. The Cotswold hills are a popular hiking and walking destination, and the Fox Inn gets many tourists taking weekend breaks or on hiking trips in the area.

The Fox Inn is located in a natural marshland setting by a river in a scenic rural area. Public transportation is limited in the area, so a car is necessary. The nearest town is Little Barrington, a three-minute drive, and the medieval town of Burford is a seven-minute drive away. The city of Oxford is a 40-minute drive away, while the town of Stratford-upon-Avon is a 48-minute drive from the inn. The closest airports are Heathrow (a 78-minute drive) and Birmingham (a 79-minute drive).

The seven guest rooms at the Fox Inn are named after nearby villages, with three rooms located in the pub building and four more in the adjacent River Mews annex. Most rooms have double beds, but a few have twin beds and others add sofa beds. Rooms are decorated in a charming rustic style, with original stone walls, exposed wooden ceiling beams, and oak furniture. Floors are covered in beige wall-to-wall carpeting, and armchairs are upholstered in traditional fabrics like gingham, in keeping with the country theme. Oil paintings of animals and nature scenes adorn the walls. 

All the guest rooms have flat-screen TVs, kettles, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms also have mini-fridges. Bathrooms are decorated in a rustic style, featuring stone floor tiles, and oak cabinets. They're fitted with either shower/tub combos or spacious walk-in showers, some with rainfall showerheads. Toiletries are provided, and hairdryers, irons, and ironing boards are available on request. 

A few guest rooms have views overlooking the river and landscaped gardens. But note that guests who have stayed in the Burford Room have complained about the uninspiring view of a roof and wall, and noise from a kitchen extractor fan. 

The Fox Inn offers traditional pub-style accommodation, and while long on charm it lacks the facilities of a hotel. A full English-style breakfast of bacon, eggs, fried tomatoes and mushrooms, sausages, baked beans, cereal, fruit, and yogurt is included in the room rate. The traditional pub is open all day, every day, and has a traditional open fireplace.

There's also a dining section in the attached conservatory overlooking the river, which is open for lunch and dinner during the week, and all day on the weekends. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served here. There are several outdoor seating areas overlooking the gardens and by the riverside, including a covered and heated dining area next to the river. The restaurant serves typical English pub fare, as well as a few seafood and vegetarian dishes. Reviews of the food are mixed, but most guests agree that it's expensive. There's plenty of free parking available on-site, and Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the property. Pets are welcome in the pub and the guest rooms.
