weathered, honey-toned Cotswolds stone facade and moss-lined slate roof, the
Noel Arms Hotel fits perfectly into the quaint market town of Chipping Campden. With parts
of the property dating to the 16th century, the Noel Arms is one of the oldest inns in
the Cotswolds and is even rumored to have housed Charles I during the English
Civil War. Stepping inside, guests can revel in the rich history on display, with
plenty of ancient wood beams and exposed stone walls, antique-style
furniture, and portraits. The vibe is warm, welcoming, and relaxed -- and quintessentially
English -- while to the back of the inn is a conservatory overlooking a small
courtyard and summer terrace.

market town located in the north Cotswolds. The small town is dotted
with quaint historic churches, cozy pubs, and restaurants, while the
surroundings provide some of the most picturesque countryside in the U.K. Stratford-upon-Avon,
birthplace of Shakespeare, is a 25-minute drive north, while Warwick Castle is
about a 40-minute drive.

The Noel Arms Hotel has 28
rooms that are decorated in a blend of twee country-style touches, antique
pieces, and frilly, floral fabrics. Some also feature exposed stonework or
four-poster beds -- one is particularly impressive and dates from the 17th
century. All rooms include flat-screen TVs and tea- and coffee-making facilities, though no
in-room Wi-Fi. Bathrooms have showers or shower/tub combos, and White Company bath products. Rooms overlooking the main road are prone to traffic
noise, and guests have complained about room windows that don't close properly. Old
floorboards and beds can also be creaky, which might disturb light sleepers.

While guests have complained that the daily breakfast service can be inconsistent (breakfast is included), dining is generally a highlight at the Noel Arms Hotel. The Conservatory restaurant serves especially good Indian curries, while the cozy Dover's
Bar has a decent selection of traditional English fare. A coffee shop serves coffee, tea, and hot chocolate throughout the day, along with cakes and pastries -- and its lounge keeps an open fire going in colder
months. While there's no on-site spa, guests can use the spa at the Noel Arms' sister hotel, the Cotswold House Hotel and Spa, which has a
steam room, a pool, and massage treatments, and is less than a 30-second walk away.
