A modern, 239-room value hotel set in the center of Glasgow, this property has the typical Premier Inn chain look and feel. The location is excellent for exploring the city center
on foot, and it's near public transportation for those who want to venture farther afield. Simple rooms have comfy beds with a variety of pillow options, though some suffer from traffic
noise and the Wi-Fi can be patchy. The buffet breakfast service is decent but costs extra, and the bar provides
a pleasant place to unwind. Overall, it's a basic but clean and comfortable
place to stay in the center of the city with rates that won't break the bank. While there are a few other Premier Inns throughout Glasgow, all with similar rate structures, this location is arguably the most convenient.
Scene
A modern no-frills chain hotel typical of the Premier Inn brand
Housed in a corner building overlooking a busy junction, this hotel could be mistaken for a George Square office (aside from the obvious Premier Inn signage). The small and modern lobby
area has an emphasis on efficiency, and there's little beyond a
couple of reception desks and a trio of touch-screen check-in stations -- it certainly doesn't encourage lingering. Decor is typical of
the chain, with swathes of purple and branded signage throughout, while a pair
of elevators service the hotel's 239 rooms, which are spread across seven
floors. Most guests are budget-conscious couples and families in
town for a couple days, although the hotel does get the occasional business guest.
Location
On a busy junction on the edge of George Square in central Glasgow
Located in central Glasgow, the hotel occupies a busy intersection on the edge of George Square. This location is excellent for exploring the city, with plenty of
bars, shops, and restaurants within easy walking distance. Glasgow Queen
Street train station is a five-minute walk away, while Buchanan Street
subway and shopping is just a little farther. The hotel is positioned just a few minutes' drive from the nearest M8 motorway exit, and there's a parking lot just across the street.
Rooms
Simple, clean, modern rooms with comfy beds, but some traffic noise
The hotel has 239
rooms, all decorated with the chain's typical simple wood furnishings and white
walls, accented with the signature purple carpets, wall art, and bed throws. In-room amenities include kettles, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi -- though
it can be patchy, even with a paid upgrade to high-speed. Signature Hypnos beds are
particularly comfortable and offer a choice of pillows. Bathrooms
are clean, though they feel a little dated; all have wall-mounted hairdryers, soap dispensers, and
most have shower/tub combos. Some traffic noise can be heard in street-facing rooms, and it's especially audible on the lower floors.
Features
Good buffet breakfast and free Wi-Fi throughout -- though the connection can be erratic
The hotel's Thyme
Restaurant offers a decent breakfast buffet (for a fee) with a mixture of hot dishes -- including sausages,
hash browns, and eggs -- and cold dishes such as cereals and croissants. A lunch and dinner menu is also available and features a few kid-friendly options. There is also a pleasant bar area and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property -- though
guests have to pay for a high-speed upgrade and even then the connection can be patchy. There's neither a fitness center nor a parking lot, although there is a privately owned parking lot across the street.
