The Premium Inn Glasgow City Centre - Argyle Street is a mid-range hotel bearing all the hallmarks of the Premier Inn chain. The hotel is located right in the city center, and while much is within walking distance, the hotel is somewhat removed from the city's more
boisterous nightlife, although some street and traffic noise is inevitable. The 124 rooms are bright and clean with the chain's iconic purple accents, and the extra-comfy signature beds come with a choice of pillows, although some rooms are small. One of four Premier Inn hotels in
Glasgow, this hotel is a good no-frills option for a few nights. For a
slicker version of the chain, check out the Premium Inn Buchanan Galleries, which
is also closer to shopping.
Scene
No-frills, mid-range Premier Inn chain hotel
Of the four Premier
Inn's located in Glasgow's city center, this Argyle Street branch is one of the more basic options. The hotel is housed in an unattractive modern blocky structure with a
weathered facade of glass and brick. Stepping into the lobby, guests will find the vibe fresher and more contemporary, awash with the signature palette of
purples and blond wood. Aside from a large picture window, there's not much natural light in the lobby, but plenty of overhead fluorescent fixtures keep the area from appearing gloomy. Staff members are efficient and friendly, and the hallways are clean and well-maintained if a
little musty in places due to lack of air flow. The hotel hosts many business guests during the week, while weekend clientele is mainly couples and groups of friends in town for some fun.
Location
City center location within a seven-minute walk of the main train station
The hotel has a
prime location right in the center of Glasgow, and is within walking distance
of most of the city's entertainment and retail attractions. Although it overlooks busy Argyle Street, the hotel is situated away from most of the heady nightlife, but there's still some inevitable traffic noise. Glasgow's main train station, Glasgow Central, is about a seven-minute walk from the hotel, while drivers have easy access to and from the M8 motorway.
Rooms
Premier Inn chain styling with comfy beds and basic amenities
The hotel has 124
rooms, all of which follow the chain's signature styling of simple decor in
shades of purple with wooden furnishings and carpeted floors. All rooms come with free (but slow) Wi-Fi, small flat-screen
TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and hairdryers. As in all Premier Inn hotels,
the focus is on the beds, which are genuinely comfy -- and guests can choose their preferred type of pillows. White-tiled bathrooms are clean and modern, with
wall-mounted soap dispensers and shower/tub combos, although some are small. Guests have complained about faulty air-conditioning units, which could be a problem in hot weather. Some rooms are prone to traffic noise, and internal noise from the elevators or neighboring rooms can also be a problem.
Features
All-you-can-eat breakfast and free Wi-Fi, though the signal can be sluggish
The hotel's bar-restaurant
is modern and bright with plenty of seating, serving guests
an all-you-can-eat cooked and continental-style buffet breakfast daily (breakfast is not included in standard room rates). The restaurant also offers an extensive menu
of burgers, steaks, and grilled items for lunch and dinner, although prices are not that low. Wi-Fi is free throughout the
property, though the signal can be slow and intermittent. The on-site Costa Coffee shop
serves hot drink and snacks.
