The 134-room Holiday Inn Genoa City is an upper-middle-range chain hotel decorated in a chic, minimalist style that opened in 2009. The property’s seafront location means most
rooms have panoramic harbor views over the Port of Genoa and the city’s famous
landmark, La Lanterna lighthouse. It’s a stylish and contemporary property, which mainly appeals to business travelers, although families are welcomed too, as is demonstrated by the hotel’s Family Rooms complete with bunk beds and toys. The location is farther
out of Genoa than is convenient for some; it takes about 25 minutes to walk to the city center. But there's a Metro station near the hotel, and guests can connect to the main tourist area in around eight minutes. This property has a nice range of features, including an excellent on-site restaurant, bar, and fitness center. Continental breakfast is included in the room rate, and Wi-Fi is free throughout.
Scene
Upscale chain hotel with stylish decor and a waterfront location
The Holiday Inn Genoa City is an upscale chain property with minimal style and a waterfront location. Set on a very busy junction, this seven-story building doesn't always make the best first impression from the exterior, but interiors are modern, bright, and appealing. The lobby has chic and minimalist style with a neutral color palette, nice greenery, and softly glowing lanterns. This space is home to a curved reception desk, seating area with leather armchairs, and a bar. Around the corner there is another seating area with contemporary gray-striped
wallpaper and nautical-themed black-and-white photographs. This chain property is contemporary, but does have a somewhat corporate feel; a mix of leisure and business travelers stay here. Overall the atmosphere is refined and modern, if a touch generic. Despite the heavy traffic surrounding the hotel, it's quiet and peaceful.
Location
Some attractions within walking distance, but inconvenient for the city center
This hotel is situated opposite Genoa’s ferry terminal, which is home to a
supermarket, cafes, and a range of shops. The location is out of the city center -- around a 25-minute walk or five-minute drive -- but there is a Metro station within a five-minute walk, and the city center is only four stops from there. The Aquarium
and Maritime Museum take around 20 minutes to reach on foot. Many business
travelers stay here when visiting the Cotone Conference Centre or Genoa Trade
Fair Centre, as both are just a 10-minute drive from the hotel. What this area
lacks is restaurants; many guests dine in the hotel or travel into the city center.
Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport is just a 15-minute drive away.
Rooms
Sleek, modern rooms all with air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi
The 134 rooms at the Holiday Inn Genoa City have air-conditioning,
free Wi-Fi, a flat screen TV with satellite channels, minibar, electric kettle, and a safe. Despite the hotel’s position on a busy
road, rooms are quiet due to thorough soundproofing. The hotel has a range
of room types available. In addition to the Classic Room, other room types include large suites
with separate living areas; Family Rooms with bunk beds, toys, and games; and
even Ladies Rooms which are equipped with magazines, hair straighteners,
magnifying mirrors, scales, and a step machine or exercise bike. Most
of the rooms have far-reaching views over the city’s port, and all have a minimalist
feel with a monochrome color scheme. Black leather headboards and dark
wooden flooring give rooms quite a corporate or generic vibe, but they're modern and fresh. Family Rooms have the addition of a brightly colored rug and soft toys. Bathrooms are
contemporary and stylish, with slate gray floors and white wall tiles. The
modern fittings include vessel sinks, bidets, and large
rainfall shower heads in walk-in showers.
Features
Excellent restaurant on-site, free breakfast, and fitness center
This hotel offers a free continental buffet breakfast, which has a wide
range of items available, including hot and cold dishes, fruit, cereals, and fresh
cakes. The hotel’s Newport restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner and
serves high quality Genoese and international dishes in a stylish dining room. There’s
a small bar in the lobby with comfortable bar stools and armchairs. Room
service is available during limited hours. Business guests can make use of
the computer stations in the business center, and five meeting rooms. There’s free
Wi-Fi throughout the hotel too and a small fitness center that’s open 24 hours.
Those traveling by car can use the hotel’s gated underground car park, although
there's a daily fee to use it.
