Bottom Line

The 154-room Holiday Inn Express Geneva Airport is a mid-range, no-frills chain hotel geared toward budget-minded and business travelers. It's convenient location beside Geneva International Airport appeals to weary travelers, and a free airport shuttle runs every 20 minutes (though not at night). There's a lobby bar as well as a bright and colorful breakfast room where a free continental breakfast is served daily. Business travelers are catered to with a meeting room and a business center, as well as free Wi-Fi. Contemporary, simple rooms have flat-screen TVs, work desks, and tea- and coffee-making facilities, but bathrooms are small and equipped with tiny walk-in showers and limited, wall-mounted toiletries. There are several other comparable airport hotels in the area, such as the more fashionable NH Geneva Airport, and travelers should compare rates.

Scene

No-frills airport hotel with contemporary, but generic, decor

The Holiday Inn Express Geneva Airport is an affordable, modern property for travelers who want to be near the airport or business facilities in the area. The seven-floor property fits into its industrial, airport surroundings, with a gray exterior and simple, contemporary interiors. Decor is a mix of corporate-feeling furniture and details that hark back to the '80s, like the neon recessed lights in the lobby and the patterned teal carpet lining the hallways. The lobby bar offers a casual lounge area with red banquette seating and curved black armchairs flanking round tables, plus a flat-screen TV and a sleek bar. The adjoining breakfast room is bright and colorful thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows, red chairs, and the recurring spotted teal carpet.

Location

Located by Geneva Airport's main terminal; a 30-minute tram ride into the Old Town

The hotel is on the south end of the Geneva International Airport on an industrial street, next door to the Movenpick Hotel & Casino and within walking distance of the World Trade Center Geneve. It’s a five-minute ride in the hotel’s shuttle to the airport's main terminal. The Palexpo convention center, as well as the Geneva Arena, are about a five-minute drive away, and several big companies have offices in the area, including Oracle Software, Lexmark International, and L'Oreal Suisse. Geneva's Old Town -- with sites like the Grand Theater, Saint Pierre Cathedral and Maison Tavel -- is 30 minutes by tram and the hotel provides a free public transportation card. The closest tram stop is about a five-minute walk from the hotel.

Rooms

Clean, basic rooms with pleasant, if dated, decor and small bathrooms

Beige blackout drapes, light wood furniture, teal carpeting, and pops of navy blue decor create a bright and pleasant atmosphere in these clean and basic, if a bit dated, rooms. Beds feature asymmetrical wooden headboards with built-in nightstands and reading lamps, and rooms are also equipped with writing desks, flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Additional sofa beds are also available in some rooms. Small, white-tiled bathrooms feature walk-in showers and limited wall-mounted toiletries. Some top-floor rooms have lovely views of the Jura mountains.

Features

Free breakfast, lobby bar, and several business facilities including a meeting room, business center, and free Wi-Fi, plus free airport shuttle

Facilities at the hotel are mostly tailored to business travelers. A traditionally furnished meeting room can fit up to 45 people and is outfitted with audiovisual equipment and Wi-Fi. There's a business corner in the lobby with a computer and a printer. Copying, faxing, and mailing services are also offered. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. A free breakfast is served daily in the breakfast room that adjoins the lobby bar, which also holds a small lounge area. The hotel provides free shuttle transportation to and from the airport every 20 minutes, though it stops running at night. There is no on-site fitness center, but discounted access is offered for fitness facilities across the street. For guests with cars, there’s underground and outdoor parking available for a fee. And the hotel provides a free public transportation card as well.
