This 16-story, 30-acre resort is located across the street from the beach on Galveston Island. For families, there's a kids' club, and free-form pool with fun waterslide that shoots guests into a smaller heated pool. For adults, there's a swim-up bar, secluded grotto Jacuzzi overlooking the water, and a 21-plus lounge offering poker, darts and billiards. The 10th floor, dubbed Club Ten, is higher end and adults only: Rooms here have rich, sophisticated decor with lots of dark wood and leather, classy artwork, and sleek bathrooms with flat-screen TVs in the mirrors. In regular rooms, the decor is either contemporary or a cheerful country style. Five, 800 square-foot luxury villas were added in 2015. Business travelers may also choose to stay here for the 200,000 square feet of on-site meeting space, and the proximity to the convention center.

The hotel is right across the street from the beach and within walking distance of many restaurants. There is an IHOP immediately nearby for guests looking for a quick, cheap meal outside of the hotel's restaurants.
Galveston is Texas barrier island on the Gulf of Mexico with an economy rooted in tourism. It's prone to hurricanes: A hurricane that hit here in 1900 went down in history as of the country's worst natural disasters, and parts the town are still recovering from Hurricane Ike, a category 2 storm that hit the area in 2008. Tourists come here for Galveston's many beaches and warm water temperatures. East Beach and Steward Beach are both public, paid beaches ideal for tourists, while some beaches along the Western shore still show signs of recovery from recent hurricanes.
Popular seasonal events in Galveston include Mardi Gras, the American Institute of Architects Sandcastle Competition, and at Christmas, Dickens on the Strand, featuring street performers and vendors, live music, and readings of Charles Dickens.
