Bottom Line

The 110-room Hotel Congreso is removed from the main action of Santiago de Compostela, providing it with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. The Cathedral and other area attractions are a short drive away. With 15 different meeting rooms, the mid-range hotel is a popular spot for business meetings and events. There is an outdoor pool, modern lobby, and two restaurants serving Galician cuisine on-site. The rooms are spacious and bright, but have some dated touches such as patterned bedspreads. For a better location, compare rates at Hotel Carris Casa de la Troya, a boutique hotel about five-minutes from the Cathedral.

Scene

Big, modern hotel

With a sleek, white awning at the entrance and a wall of tinted windows, the hotel is uniquely modern, compared to the older, classic hotels typically found in the area. The grounds are well-maintained with small ponds, beautiful vine-covered porticos, gardens, and unique sculptures. The large, sleek lobby is inviting and contemporary -- marbled floors, large metal columns, unique lighting fixtures, comfortable seating areas, and a large wall mural of the cathedral set a sophisticated tone. The hotel has a calm atmosphere and attracts many large groups traveling for business or events due to the various meeting and event rooms on-site.

Location

Located in a remote area that is a quick drive to the main sights

The Hotel Congreso is located in a remote area that feels similar to a business park, but manicured grounds are serene and tranquil. However, it's still just a quick drive away so guests can enjoy all the town has to offer with a rental car.- 11-minute drive to University of Santiago de Compostela

  • 11-minute drive to Belvis Park

  • 13-minute drive to Multiusos Fontes do Sar
  • 14-minute drive to Alameda Park

Rooms

Large, clean rooms with standard decor and modern bathrooms

Rooms are spacious and clean, but are decorated rather simply. The only true embellishments are patterned bedspreads and matching window curtains. All the rooms have a desk, flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, small armoire, safe, coffee-and tea-making equipment, cushioned chairs, and air-conditioning. In most rooms, the beds are two double beds pushed together. In some rooms, there's a separate area that has small day beds and hardwood floors. The Junior Suite rooms also have a small, furnished balcony. Bathrooms are small, but modern and sleek with marble tiled walls and floors, vessel sinks, a bidet, shower/tub combo with a glass wall, and modern appliances. The Standard room's bathroom is a little different from the others -- the door to the bathroom is an unusual spiral shell-like pattern and the wall and floor tiles are just basic white, rather than the luxurious marbling found in other bathrooms.

Features

Gardens, outdoor pool, and 15 different event rooms

With 15 different meeting rooms, this hotel is the perfect place to have an event or large business meeting --the largest room can fit up to 850 people. The hotel has two great restaurants to choose from, one more casual than the other, that serves Galician cuisine. The indoor patio is surrounded by some of the rooms and is filled with lush plants, sculptures, and various seating areas. Guests can wander the grounds and check out the cool sculptures, small gardens, or the vintage farming tools. They can also lay out on the deck surrounding the small, relaxing pool. Wi-Fi and parking are free perks.
