Converted from a historic house, Hotel Altair is a charming mid-range boutique that is a fun, yet serene place to stay in Santiago de Compostela. Scene

Quiet, modern boutique with sophisticated, funky decor

This small hotel is surprisingly modern and sleek, yet still homey and comfortable. The lobby is sophisticated and fun with stone walls, sleek furniture, and purple accents that liven up the room. A large bookshelf with books, magazines, and small knick-knacks separates the sitting area from the small bar. The clientele is mostly adults and couples, which allows for a calm, quiet, and a sweet romantic atmosphere.

Location

Located on a quiet street, within walking distance to the Cathedral and other attractions.

Many visitors come to the area to visit the beautiful Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, the supposed burial site of Saint James the Great, which has been a place of pilgrimage since the Middle Ages. Hotel Altair is located on the corner of a charming stone street with beautiful old stone buildings and is within walking distance to the cathedral, as well as many other attractions, restaurants, shops, and bars.- 2-minute walk Museum of Pilgrimages of Santiago

Rooms

Small, contemporary rooms with simple, chic decor

The 11 modern rooms have minimalist decor, with hardwood floors, stone walls, a light wood accent wall behind the bed, and sleek furniture made of a combination of light and dark wood. The beds are comfortable and topped with a white comforter and orange accent pillows. Watch out for two small beds pushed together to make one awkward large bed. All the rooms have a desk, built-in closet and unique, built-in bedside tables, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, a safe, and a mini-fridge. Some have balconies or a private terrace. The bathrooms are modern and chic, with large beige tiled walls, slate colored flooring, a bidet, and a shower/tub combo with a glass wall and modern appliances.

Features

A small, chic bar and a large book selection.

Like most boutique hotels, The Altair doesn't offer much in the way of features. There is a cool, modern little bar area that also acts as a restaurant, and serves free breakfast in the mornings. It also has a library that consists of a large bookshelf that separates the bar and sitting area of the lobby. It has tons of books in a variety of topics, including the area and famous Spanish artists. A laptop and printer is available for guests to borrow and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Parking isn't available on-site though there is a nearby public lot for a fee.
