Bottom Line

Hakata Tokyu REI Hotel is a clean and pleasant but no-frills business hotel, conveniently located within a seven-minute walk of the Hakata train and subway station. This two-and-a-half-pearl property has 204 rooms spread over 15 stories, and includes a Ladies Floor for
women business travelers, an unusual touch. Guest rooms have Western-style bathrooms, but aside from a lounge, a free self-service laundry, vending machines, and free Wi-Fi, the hotel has few amenities. For a similar
category hotel with a little more character, travelers might want to check out the Plaza Hotel
Tenjin.

Scene

Standard lower-middle-range Japanese business hotel

Hakata Tokyu REI Hotel is
similar to many other Japanese business hotels of its type, which tend to be more practical
and functional than atmospheric. From the stark glass-and-steel exterior to the bare and sterile lobby and
breakfast lounge -- all devoid of decoration -- the decor appears to be streamlined and sanitized. But although it lacks color and character, the public spaces and guest rooms are impeccably clean and tidy, and cater to the basic
needs of business travelers. One standout feature is the Ladies Floor for women business travelers.

Rooms

Pleasant, clean rooms with Western-style bathrooms

The guest rooms at Hakata
Tokyu REI Hotel are reasonably spacious by Japanese standards, but the large
beds take up most of the floor space. Floors are covered in dark-gray
carpeting, and the light-colored furniture is simple but practical. Bathrooms are small but notable for their Western fixtures. Instead
of the molded plastic sinks common in Japanese bathrooms, there are porcelain
rectangular-shaped vessel sinks set on wooden cabinets, and Western-style
shower stalls with rainfall showerheads. Some guest rooms include bathtubs inside the shower area. All rooms come with electric kettles, air
purifiers, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, hairdryers, toiletries, free Wi-Fi, and trouser presses.

Features

Free coffee, tea, Wi-Fi, and use of laundry machine

Free coffee and tea are available in the lounge off the lobby throughout the day. The lounge also
functions as the breakfast room, where a buffet of hot and cold
dishes is served for an extra fee. A free self-service washer and dryer,
microwave, and ice machine are available for guests' use, and on-site vending machines sell drinks. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
