The 207-room Oasis Village is a solid, mid-range choice that offers the typical Canary Island resort experience with saltwater pools, animation, and a huge buffet restaurant. It may not be especially memorable, but it checks off all the boxes for a beachy vacation, drawing families, retired couples, and tour groups. Most of the rooms here have undergone a renovation (rolling on through 2016) that swapped out some of the dated art and bedspreads for a more contemporary look. They all offer furnished balconies as well, and most have kitchenettes. Overall, the energy here is boisterous and playful, though that can translate to noise from other guests and the animation team, especially by the pool. Families may also want to consider Oasis Duna Hotel, which has even more kid-friendly features like waterslides.
Scene
The typical mid-range Canary Island resort drawing families and tour groups
Oasis Village opened 17 years ago, and as such, it’s one of the older resorts in town, which isn’t necessarily a con -- this is a mid-range resort that has the formula down pat when it comes to beachy getaways. The property has a horseshoe shape looped around the resort’s three saltwater pools, where lively music plays and people gather to sunbathe and splash around. Plenty of families are drawn here for the pools, the two kids' clubs, or the games throughout -- even the bar has a little kids’ corner with foosball tables where parents can park the children. Tour groups are also frequent clients, and retired couples come here as well for an affordable Canary Island getaway. This property is very similar to its sister hotel, Oasis Duna, but unlike that apartment-only property, this offers more of a hotel experience.
Location
Removed from the heart of town while still in walking distance
Oasis Village is set apart from the hustle of town, but still in easy walking distance to the action. A small mall with a handful of restaurants, shops, and bars is a half a block away, and a supermarket is on that corner as well. The main commercial strip of town is a short five-minute walk. The small beach of Waikiki, located off that main drag, is a 16-minute walk. The larger sand-dune beaches (Grandes Playas) can be reached in a six-minute drive. Fuerteventura's airport is a 30-minute drive away.
Rooms
Rooms, many fresh from a 2016 renovation, with furnished balconies
Rooms at the Oasis Village are all generously sized, with separate bedrooms, living rooms, and furnished balconies. Views are either of the garden or the pool, though the latter can pick up some noise from animation teams or blaring music. Many have kitchenettes as well, with mini-fridges, two-burner hops, sinks, and the usual collection of dishware and utensils. On our visit in 2016, most of the rooms had gone through a renovation, where TVs had been upgraded to newer flat-screen models and dated patterned bedspreads were replaced with fresh white bedding and slate-gray pillows. Wall art was also spruced up with black-and-white photos of Fuerteventura. The result is that these rooms, while simple, feel more up-to-date than many other resorts in the area. Solid, emerald-green furniture and pull-out sofas complete the look. Standard amenities include mini-fridges, safes, and electric kettles with tea and coffee supplies, but rooms lack air-conditioning (which is typical of mid-range resorts in the area). In-room Wi-Fi is available for a fee. Bathrooms, sporting pretty blue tile and white shower/tub combos, also feel a bit more current than many other properties. All have hairdryers, though toiletries are limited to a bar of soap.
Features
Covering all the resort bases including pools, animation, and buffet dining
The action at Oasis is centered on three pools, all saltwater, with one a shallow kiddy pool. The pool is lively, with piped-in music playing international pop hits, and the animation team keeps the poolside entertainment rolling. They also have their own stage in the resort’s massive bar. (Though some past guests have complained about the noise that all this boisterous entertainment generates.)For dining, Oasis has a huge buffet restaurant with plenty of seating, insuring there’s never a struggle for a table. A poolside bar provides drinks and snacks, like plates of French fries. All-inclusive rates are available. Families are well considered, with two kids’ clubs, kids-specific animation, playgrounds, and loads of games including pool and foosball tables. Cribs and extra beds are available for rooms, and high chairs are found in the restaurants. There’s two tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, and a multi-use court that’s often used as a field for kids to kick around a ball. A cabana by the pool offers massages as well. A simple washer/dryer is available for guests’ use as are computer workstations. Wi-Fi is free in reception, but it costs a fee to use in rooms.
