Bottom Line

Best Age Fuerteventura is an adult-only budget resort set on a hilltop on the outskirts of Fuerteventura's Costa Calma. While its location is quiet, there's not a great deal within walking distance and the nearest beach is a 10-minute drive. Rooms are simple but colorful and have balconies or terraces, some with distance sea views, though in-room Wi-Fi is pricey. The pool when not heated can feel very chilly, though the spa has decent facilities. Overall, it's all rather sedate and can feel a little isolated too, which accounts for the low rates. Families wanting closer beach proximity should pay more for the all-inclusive Hotel Fuerteventura Playa.

Kn Hotel Matas Blancas

Scene

Adult-only resort hotel with low-key vibe appealing to senior vacationers

With its striking crimson and orange extending around a long stretch of road, the Best Age Fuerteventura certainly has a distinctive presence. Stepping inside, the tone is toned down somewhat, with cool blues and gray granite floors in the spacious though low-ceilinged lobby. Despite its colorful, toy-brick architecture, the resort is an adult-only property, centered around interconnecting pools and surrounding sun terrace. The vibe is peaceful and low-key, and the majority of clientele are over 50 (Germans make up a large share); typically, guests are happy doing little besides lounging around the pool. While not child-friendly, the hotel is welcoming of pets (for a daily fee). There's even a resident hotel cat who can be spotted snoozing around the property.

Location

Quiet hilltop location 10-minute drive from the beach

The hotel is located on the top of a quiet hill on the outskirts of the beach vacation resort town of Costa Calma, on Fuerteventura's southwest coast. The location can feel a little out of the way, and although there are a few shops and restaurants within walking distance, it's uphill all the way back. A free shuttle service ferries guests to the beach twice a day, which is about a 10-minute drive. The Oasis Park Fuerteventura is also around 10 minutes by car, and surf beach Playa de la Pared is 12 minutes. Fuerteventura Airport, however, is a fair distance away at an hour's drive.

Rooms

Colorful rooms, some with distant sea-view balconies

The hotel has 187 rooms, all of which are decorated in a colorful palette of blues, greens, and yellow with floral fabrics and tiled floors. Sliding doors open to furnished balconies or terraces, many with distant sea views. Amenities include minibars, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs with some international channels (mostly in German). Wi-Fi is available but expensive and can be unreliable. Mosaic-tiled bathrooms have wall-mounted hairdryers, shower/tub combos, and basic toiletries.

Features

Large outdoor swimming pool -- though it can be cold

The daily buffet breakfast is a decent spread of the usual pastries, fruit, cereal, and yogurt, as well as a cooked-to-order egg station (which can be prone to queues). Breakfast is included in the rate, and half-board rates are available and include dinner, which changes each evening. While the outdoor pool is large, with three sections and a shaded area, it is only heated seasonally and can be very cold (especially with the typically strong winds). Guests do have free access to the spa facilities, including a whirlpool tub, sauna, and steam bath, and treatments are available for a fee. Sports facilities include a squash court, table tennis, and boules. There's little to do in the evenings and reports suggest the quality of live entertainment is rather poor.
