Bottom Line

Hotel Geranios Suites & Spa is a three-and-a-half-pearl all-suite property with an excellent central location on the beach in Caleta de Fuste. This hotel is generically modern throughout, and its 233 spacious rooms have living-slash-dining areas, kitchens, and terraces or balconies. Some feature uninterrupted sea views. The gym is free to use and there's no charge for in-room safes, but it's worth noting inconveniences like unheated pools and fees for in-room Wi-Fi. There are fewer family facilities here compared to hotels nearby, and couples are drawn to the quieter vibe. All-inclusive rates are available, though food can be a bit underwhelming. As an alternative, the Barcelo Castillo Beach Resort has more charm and better rates, but rooms aren’t as well-kept.

Scene

A well-located, modern base for couples

Hotel Geranios Suites & Spa is a modern low-rise hotel that's a bit of a departure from the traditional properties throughout this part of Fuerteventura. Inside, the design is not particularly cohesive; the try-hard lobby has bold chrome pillars, orange and purple checkerboard seating, and blue mood lighting, and the minimalist main restaurant borders on bland. Most of the action here takes place outside, and there are plenty of spots to drink, sunbathe, and swim here. In fact, you'll find most guests outdoors during their stay. Overall, the hotel is well-maintained and it draws mainly couples. Even though the rooms here can sleep two children, it’s less family-focused than other hotels in the area and, as such, offers a quieter base.

Location

On the beach, a 10-minute walk from the tourist town of Caleta de Fuste

Hotel Geranios Suites & Spa sits beachfront in the budget-friendly tourist town of Caleta de Fuste. Unlike some of the larger resorts -- whose huge grounds set them way back from the sea -- this hotel's rooms are super-close to the public sandy beach. It’s an excellent location for travelers looking to explore the area; a 15-minute walk along the promenade in one direction will take you to the Atlantico shopping center (with a bowling alley, cinema, and amusements), and a 10-minute walk in the other direction is the center of Caleta de Fuste. There, you'll find a good choice of restaurants, bars, and supermarkets. The main beach in Caleta de Fuste is still undergoing expansion (as of 2017), but the stretch outside of the Hotel Geranios Suites & Spa is complete. Fuerteventura’s airport is only a 10-minute drive away.

Rooms

Spacious and spotless suites with simple, modern style -- but there’s a fee for Wi-Fi

Rooms are clean and clean-lined, with a soft Farrow & Ball-esque color palette of grays, blues, and beiges. Living-slash-dining areas have comfy sofas and armchairs, glass dining tables, and floral artwork. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs (albeit with few English-speaking channels), and small kitchens with fridges, stovetops, and microwaves (but no kettle unless requested). It’s free to use the safes, though unfortunately there's a fee for Wi-Fi, which is unexpected in a hotel of this standard. Bathrooms vary in style, but all have shower/tub combos and double sinks plus hairdryers and toiletries. The grout in some of the rooms we visited needs replacing, and makes them a little less pleasant than we'd like. Room sizes start at 730 square feet (68 square meters) in the entry-level Junior Suites. Superior Suites are almost double in size, at a generous 1,290 square feet (120 square meters). Balconies or terraces come standard. It’s worth upgrading to a suite with a sea view, and -- as the hotel is so close to the beach -- the ocean views here are some of the best in the area. At the top end of the hotel's offerings, Two-Bedroom Villas have kitchens, living rooms, and private pools.

Features

A smart pool area tops the list, but some important smaller details are lacking

Hotel Geranios Suites & Spa does the big facilities well, but it’s a bit hit and miss on the smaller details. On the hit list: free access to the gym. At the other end of the scale, the additional cost for in-room Wi-Fi is disappointing and it’s a shame that the outdoor pools aren’t heated. Previous guests comment on the water being freezing at times. The main pool has a pool bar and plenty of sun beds on the surrounding deck. As the hotel sits on a wide stretch of Caleta de Fuste’s public beach, it’s just a short skip to take a dip in the sea. There’s a buffet restaurant serving a generous and good quality breakfast (at a fee). An all-inclusive package is available, but reviews on other meals are mixed, with many guests preferring to walk to other restaurants in Caleta de Fuste for a better atmosphere. A spa has an indoor pool and offers treatments from Lomi Lomi massages to chocotherapy. Guests should note that the spa is closed on Sundays. Other facilities here include a 24-hour reception, games room with pool table, table tennis, and dart board, and a tennis court. Kids have their own colorful play area. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby, and on-site parking is free.
