Bottom Line
The Fuerteventura Princess is a three-and-a-half-pearl beachfront resort that feels like two resorts in one: the Escencia area and the main hotel. It's all located above Esqunizo Beach, which can be accessed via a staircase or ramp. There are seven lively swimming pools and a good range of sports facilities, including two gyms. Facilities for children include a mini-club in the main hotel and Esencia area, plus two kids' pools. There is a good selection of restaurants serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner on an all-inclusive or half-board basis. Unfortunately, rooms in the main hotel are a tad dated, but effort was being made during our 2017 visit to upgrade them. Rooms in the Esencia area are of a noticeably higher standard, though the lack of free in-room Wi-Fi is disappointing. For a more modern hotel with a wider range of children’s facilities, consider the nearby TUI Magic Life Fuerteventura instead.

Traditional resort with both dated and modern areas in a pleasant beachfront location
The Fuerteventura Princess attracts French, Polish, English, and German guests looking for a family-friendly hotel that's within easy reach of the beach. Three years ago the hotel partnered with Thomas Cook to launch the Esencia premium area, which features modern rooms, plus all-inclusive or half board packages. Overall the hotel isn’t as attractive as its sister property, the Club Jandia Princess, but rooms in the Esencia area have been renovated to offer clean and modern accommodations. During our visit the lobby bar was empty during the day and the plant-filled reception area was quiet. It’s worth noting that there are several steep slopes and hills around the resort, which some guests might find difficult to navigate. This a pleasant place to enjoy the sun with key highlights including the beachfront location and swimming pools.
Location
Beachfront hotel within a 16-minute drive of Solana Matorral and Morro Jable
Located in Esqunizo near sister hotel Club Jandia Princess, the Fuerteventura Princess is relatively quiet. The beach can be accessed using a staircase or ramp directly from the hotel. Close to the main FV-2 motorway, the hotel is well located for guests to explore the island. The hotel is a five-minute walk from the nearest supermarket. Nearby Solana Matorral is an 11-minute drive away, for visiting attractions including the skeleton of a sperm whale. Farther south, the traditional town of Morro Jable is 16 minuges away by car. North of the hotel, the town of Jandia, with plenty of shops and restaurants to explore, is 18 minutes away by car. From the hotel, Fuerteventura Airport is around a 70-minute drive away.
Rooms
Mixture of dated and modern rooms split between two areas
Rooms are split between the main hotel buildings and the Esencia premium area. Standard Doubles in the main hotel are decorated in a traditional Canarian style that looks a bit dated, with matching coral patterned sheets, elaborate headboards, and dark wooden furniture. These rooms have a sea view or side sea view, flat-screen TVs, and air-conditioning. Slightly more modern rooms in the main building have been upgraded with neutral decor including fresh white sheets, white and gold headboards, and lighter walls. Standard Doubles in the Esencia area have an open-plan bedroom and a seating area with a sofa bed. The decor is fresh and welcoming, with light wood-veneer furniture and crisp white linens. Guests can request a specific type of balcony, shaded or non-shaded. Family suites in this area have sea views, an Xbox or PlayStation, separate living room and bedroom, an iPod dock, two balconies, sofa beds, and two bathrooms with bathtubs. Features across all rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges, but there's a fee for Wi-Fi and use of electronic safes. En-suite bathrooms have a bath and shower, hotel branded toiletries, fresh white towels, and a hairdryer.
Features
Several pools, sports facilities, and a gym, plus a large buffet restaurant with all-inclusive packages
This hotel has good range of features for families and couples on a beach vacation. The main outdoor pools are a highlight, with five in the main hotel and two in the Esencia area, all with plenty of space to swim or relax on the surrounding sun terraces. At the Esencia pool, Balinese beds can be rented daily for a fee. While the hotel has access to a beach, it's down a steep and rocky path that might be difficult for some guests to navigate. Popular sporting activities include water sports like surfing, windsurfing, and kite surfing at the beach. There’s a small gym with updated cardio machines and spin bikes, and a volleyball court at the edge of property with an archery area nearby (for guests over age 16). Two outdoor tennis courts can be rented for a fee. The hotel has a private nudist area with pool, sauna, Turkish bath, and showers that was being renovated during our 2017 visit. Massage treatments can be booked for a fee.
Food is served on an all-inclusive or half board basis, and the hotel operates on a colored wristband system. Standard all-inclusive wristbands include local spirits while black premium wristbands bands include all international drinks. With over 1000 seats, the spacious main buffet restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner on an all-inclusive or half-board basis, and there’s a separate bar area. Themed dinners include Canarian, Mexican, Spanish, and Italian cuisines. The La Choza restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and serves late breakfast, lunch, and snacks throughout the day.
The pleasant chill out area in Esencia has a small bar and terrace with ocean views and live music. Within the main pool area theres a large wooden rotunda with a quiet reading space. In the evening there is a variety of entertainment in the theater including Disney-themed shows, live music, casino nights, and a DJ.
For children there are two different mini-clubs: one in the main hotel and the other in the Esencia area. The mini-club in the Esencia area is led by Thomas Cook entertainers that aren’t employed by the hotel. There’s a small heated pool for children, and a mini-disco at night, plus a baby sitting service can be arranged for a fee. There's a small shopping arcade with a supermarket, clothes, jewelry and souvenir shops, plus a professional photographer who can be booked for private photo shoots. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby, but costs extra in rooms. Car rentals and excursions can be arranged on-site.
