Hotel Cotillo Beach

This independent family run property attracts mature French, German, and Spanish couples looking for a quiet and affordable hotel. While common areas are a tad dated, efforts are being made to upgrade the hotel, with plans in place to renovate the main restaurant, and include free Wi-Fi throughout the property. Most guests spend time relaxing outside at the pool, where there are plenty of loungers, shaded areas, and attractive landscaped gardens. There is direct access from the lobby to the pool, but it’s worth noting there are no elevators. Overall, this traditional mid-range resort is in need of some TLC, but is a comfortable place for a break in the sun. 

The hotel is located in El Cotillo, in the north of Fuerteventura. This is a quiet spot, with a calm atmosphere, so car rental is essential to explore the island further. The area is well-known for its pretty beaches: Los Lagos Beach is a seven-minute walk away, and El Cotillo Beach is five minutes away by car, or a 23-minute walk. From the hotel, it’s an eight-minute drive to the quaint surfing village of Lajares, with a small selection of cafes and restaurants, plus local shops to wander around. Corralejo, the main town in northern Fuerteventura, is a 22-minute drive away, and has a pedestrianized shopping center and attractive harbor area. Airport De Fuerteventura will take about 38 minutes to reach by car.

This hotel has two vastly different room types: One-Bedroom Apartments and Superior Rooms. The apartments are decorated in a traditional Canarian style that is popular with mature guests, but some might find a bit dated. Everything is coordinated, from the patterned sheets to matching curtains, sofa beds, and feature tiles on the floor surrounding the bed. Abstract art hangs on ivory walls and wood veneer furniture includes a desk, bedside tables, and a luggage stand. In-room amenities include ceiling fans, small flat-screen TVs, telephones, and safes, but no air-conditioning. En-suite bathrooms are roomy, with a separate shower and bathtub, large vanity mirror, brown towels, hairdryers, and basic toiletries. Eight renovated Superior Rooms are the complete opposite: modern, fresh, and decorated in a minimal gray and white palette. Expect pale gray laminate flooring and fresh white linens, plus free Wi-Fi and air-conditioning. Sleek bathrooms have a wet area with power shower, frosted glass sliding doors, and clean tiled walls. All rooms have good-sized balconies or terraces that get sunshine throughout the day, with views of the pool or the main road. 

This hotel has good range of vacation features. The large outdoor pool is the main highlight of this hotel, with two interconnecting pools divided by a small footbridge and a separate kids' pool. There are plenty of loungers and canopies for those who prefer the shade. At the back of the property there's a full-sized tennis court, which looks a little tired. The daily activity program includes yoga, stretching, Ping-Pong, archery, darts, and petanque. A good-sized theater room is used for welcome meetings and occasional cabaret shows.

The main buffet restaurant serves hot and cold breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, on an all-inclusive or half board basis. Themed evenings include Asian, Italian, and Spanish cuisines. The large La Terraza bar has a long wooden bar, serves fast food throughout the day, and is open to the public. A pool bar has about 45 seats, and serves snacks, ice cream, drinks, and cocktails during the day. In the evenings, quiz nights, live music, karaoke, and bingo keep guests entertained. Extra amenities include a pool table, vending machine, and cigarette machine. 

A kids' club offers face painting, paper crafts, and sports activities for ages 5 to 11. On the street in front of the hotel, is a variety of local businesses including car and bike rental, hairdresser, beauty salon, and a small supermarket. Free Wi-Fi is available in reception. Computers are available in the lobby for guest use. There is free on-street parking surrounding the hotel.
