Inn on Barons Creek

With cozy furnishings and (somewhat dated) decor in shades of gold, chocolate brown, and taupe, the lobby at this property is welcoming and relaxed. Warm brown tile floors are sprinkled with dark rugs, artwork adorns the walls, and shelves are filled with books and decorative pieces that make the room feel more like a country lodge living room than a hotel lobby. The large front desk is tucked into one corner, and sofas and armchairs provide comfortable seating. Guests staying in the main building can use the nearby elevators to get to their rooms, while the some rooms are accessible from outdoor walkways.

The Inn on Barons Creek is located on South Washington Street, just two blocks from Main Street and a short walk to downtown Fredricksburg and Barons Creek. One side of the property faces the highway, while the back side is green and scenic, looking down onto the water and offering park areas and pathways to explore. While the area is pretty, a nearby farm and the proximity to the highway can make some rooms a bit noisy. A number of restaurants are within a five-minute walk, as are several museums and shops, and the charming downtown area includes a number of wineries, music venues, art galleries, and festival sites. San Antonio takes an hour to reach by car and getting to Dallas takes closer to four hours.

The suites and rooms at this property are large and comfortable, with traditional (albeit chain-like) furnishings and plenty of amenities including free Wi-Fi and breakfast. Guests traveling with children or looking for the most space should book a suite. Standards are the smallest but still offer a good amount of room. King Jacuzzi Suites are designed for two, while the Extended Stay Suites are large and feature multiple rooms. 

Each suite includes a separate seating area, a pull-out sofa bed, a desk, two telephones, two TVs, a microwave, a mini-fridge, and a coffeemaker. The bed-and-breakfast style rooms are only for adults, and are set apart from the main building, providing views of the creek and a quieter atmosphere. Smaller and featuring more rustic furnishings, these rooms include a dining table, a microwave, and whirlpool tubs.

Despite being a smaller budget property, the Inn on Barons Creek includes a number of features that make it convenient for many types of travelers. The inn's centrally located, heated outdoor saltwater pool and whirlpool are surrounded by a clean, bright patio. A separate conference center is located next door and can accommodate 250 people for special events or functions; a smaller parlor is also available for business meetings. The full-service spa offers a wide variety of nail, facial, body, and massage treatments, and a number of outdoor spaces and walkways make for a relaxing, comforting atmosphere. While the property does not include an on-site restaurant, free breakfast is served daily, and the hotel is within walking distance of a number of places to eat. A gift shop offers souvenirs, local wines, and snacks, and there is a small fitness center as well as guest laundry facilities. Parking is free.
