The Breakers at Fort Walton Beach is a mid-range condo resort made up of 144 private one- to three-bedroom units. Each apartment is individually furnished and decorated,
but all have full kitchens, washer/dryers, and private balconies with
great Gulf views. But the decor in the guest rooms feels tired and dated. Features include two outdoor pools, private beach
access, picnic areas, and a free DVD rentals, but guest services are otherwise limited.
Scene
A condo resort with few common areas, but peace, quiet, and a beautiful beach
The Breakers at Fort Walton Beach is a condo
resort with spectacular views of the Gulf of
Mexico. The common areas are clean and tidy -- but far from fancy. The lobby decor feels randomly thrown-together, with mirrored
pillars, Hawaiian-print upholstery, and a dropped ceiling. The effect is a little glum, but it doesn't deter guest that are looking for self-catering facilities and peace and quiet. Still, it lacks the style and ambiance of a typical Fort Walton resort.
Location
On a gorgeous white-sand beach with beautiful Gulf views
Located on Okaloosa Island, the Breakers at Fort Walton Beach sits on a gorgeous strip of white sand Gulf beach. The complex
is on a small road off the main Gulf Coast thoroughfare -- Highway 98 -- which
can get jammed during peak tourist season. The area
surrounding the Breakers includes several hotels, condos, and residential buildings,
as well as an assortment of restaurants and strip clubs. The
Emerald Island Convention Center is a two-minute drive or 13-minute walk away.
Rooms
Condos with dated decor, but full kitchens, private balconies, and Gulf views
The Breakers at Fort Walton Beach consists
of one-, two-, and three-bedroom condos, all with private balconies and
beautiful Gulf views. Each unit is
individually owned and the condos here are thus decorated in a variety of styles, but many suffer from dated and frumpy decor, like loud bedspreads and dated granite countertops. All condos are large and clean and come with free Wi-Fi, TVs with DVD players, and full-size kitchens with dishwashers,
refrigerators (with ice-makers), microwaves, and washer/dryers. Appliances may
include toasters, blenders, and coffeemakers and all units have plenty of crockery and dishes for guest use. As the condos vary a great deal, guests should ask for specifics of the particular unit they will
be renting.
Features
Two outdoor pools plus a kids' pool, barbecue grills, fitness center, shuffleboard, and tennis
The resort sits on a long expanse of white sand beach where lounge chairs and parasols can be rented from an independent company. There are also two outdoor pools, one of which is heated. Both are simple and rectangular and are surrounded by lounge chairs on concrete
decks. There's also a tiny kids' pool for little
ones. However, there isn't a great deal of shade or landscaping poolside, nor are there pool or beachside bars or programmed activities to promote resort-style camaraderie.Other features include two shuffleboard courts and a tennis court for guest use, as well as community gas and charcoal grills and a picnic area. A fitness center offers several cardio machines, as well as free weights, weight machines, and a sauna. There's also a free DVD rental machine in the lobby as well as a 24-hour guest service desk offering concierge-style
assistance. Wedding and event planning services are also available.
