Wyndham Garden Fort Myers Beach is a pleasant
mid-range hotel on a big stretch of white-sand beach on the Gulf of Mexico. The 103 simple rooms here are more contemporary than many hotels in the area and all rooms feature flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. This end of Fort Myers Beach is pretty sedate, and the bars and restaurants of Times Square are a 15-minute drive from the hotel. The popular on-site Pincher's Tiki Bar is a hit for food and drink, and the pool is large enough for a
genuine swim. The Pink Shell Resort & Spa has more kid-friendly features, but rates there will be much higher and rooms aren't as fresh.
Scene
Pleasant beachfront hotel with laid-back, but lively, atmosphere
The beachfront Wyndham Garden Fort Myers Beach is housed in a
two-story motel-style building on well-landscaped grounds with palm trees and a
garden. Guests enter to a small turquoise-and-beige lobby with ceiling fans,
outdated furniture, and a flat-screen TV -- it's not exactly a place to hang out, but there are plenty of other spots for guests to gather throughout the hotel. The large outdoor pool is a highlight, as is the whimsically decorated Pincher's Tiki Bar, featuring shaded deck and beach
seating facing the pool or the Gulf of Mexico -- live music often keeps things upbeat in the evening. The beach offers cabana and chair rentals,
and is a terrific spot to watch the sunset. The more recreationally inclined can
play beach volleyball or rent a parasail or jet ski. The atmosphere is festive
at the hotel, and the clientele is almost entirely tourists -- many of whom are couples -- who appreciate the
lovely beach, pool and poolside bar, and relatively inexpensive rooms.
Location
Beachfront location on the Gulf of Mexico, 15 minutes from Times Square
The beachfront Wyndham Garden Fort Myers Beach is on
Estero Boulevard overlooking the Gulf of Mexico -- it's at the southern end of town, a bit far from the more happening areas like the shops and restaurants around Times Square and the pier (those take about 15 minutes to reach by car). Lovers Key State Park features canoeing, kayaking, and
wildlife viewing and is a five-minute drive from the hotel. Also within a five-minute drive is Mound House, Estero
Island's oldest standing structure, sitting on an ancient Calusa Indian mound. The area
with the I-75 freeway, Gulf Coast Town Center mall, and Florida Gulf Coast
University is about a 35-minute drive from the hotel. For spring training baseball lovers, Jet
Blue Park (Boston Red Sox) and Hammond Stadium (Minnesota Twins) are both
within a 30-minute drive of the hotel. The center of Fort Myers takes 40 minutes to reach by car, and is home to the Imaginarium Science Center and Edison and
Ford Winter Estates. The hotel is a 40-minute drive from Southwest Florida International Airport.
Rooms
Colorful modern rooms with mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs
The 103 all non-smoking rooms at Wyndham Garden Fort Myers
Beach are arrayed in a two-story motel-style building with exterior corridors
and no elevators. Rooms come in Beach View, Courtyard, Deluxe, Oceanview,
Poolside, and Two-Bedroom Suite categories. Rooms are contemporary, especially when compared with other mid-range properties in the area, and feature cheery, sharp decor that keeps with the Wyndham Garden brand. The color palette is
largely beige and brown, with a striking turquoise accent wall and ochre-colored
throw pillows on the white-cotton bed. Dark wood veneer furniture is simple and modern, and all rooms are spacious, clean, and quiet. Standard features include desks, safes (some of which are key-operated), coffeemakers, mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, and wall-mounted flat-screen TVs with basic
cable. Some safes do not fit larger laptops. Other rooms offer some combination
of balconies, sofa beds, microwaves, and wet bars. Suites have kitchens. Tan tile bathrooms
are clean and spacious with large marble vanities and walk-in showers.
Features
Large outdoor pool, beach with water sports, plus lively bar and grill
For a relatively small hotel, the Wyndham Garden Fort Myers Beach provides a solid array of
property features. The expansive white-sand beach offers swimming, beach
volleyball, parasailing, jet skiing, and dolphin tours, though some activities are subject to extra fees. Cabanas, chairs, and umbrellas are available for rent. The heated
outdoor pool is quite sizeable, and long enough for a genuine swim. The
adjacent bar offers a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages,
plus sandwiches, burgers, and seafood throughout the day. Outdoor deck and beach seating with gulf
views is available, and there's live music on certain nights. The restaurant serves
breakfast and dinner, and scores solid reviews from guests, though breakfast isn't included in room rates. Room service is available. The small fitness center has
treadmills, recumbent bikes, stair-steppers, a small rack of free weights, and flat-screen
TVs; there's also shuffleboard and table tennis. The hotel also has a business center, meeting
rooms, coin-operated laundry, a 24-hour front desk, tourist assistance, and free
parking. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
