- Breakfast is only available seasonally and for a fee

- Poolside bar and restaurant open to public; can attract partiers
Bottom Line
Two-story pastel buildings form a village-like setup at Purple Parrot Village Resort, an upper-middle-range gated condo complex in Perdido Key. Though there's no direct beach access, the Johnson Beach National Seashore is within a five-minute drive. Decor varies, but all condos have full kitchens, washers and dryers, and free Wi-Fi. There are an indoor pool, and a large outdoor pool with a waterfall and a poolside bar and restaurant. Smoking around the pool is an issue for some guests, and there’s no designated parking for each condo, which can mean long walks back to the units. Travelers seeking something on the beach might want to consider Windemere Condominiums by Wyndham Vacation Rentals.

Scene
Laid-back village resort with secluded feel
Rooms at Purple Parrot Village Resort are divided among a collection of two-story, pastel-colored buildings with white outdoor staircases and balcony railings. The village-like layout contributes to the laid-back vibe, and though the property sits right off a highway, the atmosphere feels private and secluded. Grounds are dotted with trees, palms, and lush plants surrounding the houses, plus there's a 150,000-gallon, lagoon-like pool with stone waterfalls residing at the center of the property. Palm trees, lounge chairs, and thatch umbrellas surround the pool area, and a wooden bridge stretches to a small island with a hot tub. Smoking by the pool and other public areas can be an issue for some, however.
Location
In Perdido Key within a five-minute drive of the beach
The hotel is situated off of the main highway in Perdido Key, but it feels secluded. Though not within walking distance of the beach, Johnson Beach National Seashore is within a five-minute drive. There are a few restaurants nearby, as well as condo resorts and hotels. Big Lagoon State Park, where visitors can camp, fish, swim, and go crabbing, is within a 10-minute drive, while Pensacola International Airport is less than a 45-minute drive.
Rooms
Clean and spacious condos with homey living room areas and full kitchens
The property has privately owned one- to three-bedroom condos, the largest of which can sleep up to eight guests. Decor varies, but the units we looked at were clean and spacious, with homey touches like area rugs, wood floors, and beachy pictures hanging on the walls. The full kitchens have ovens, refrigerators, microwaves, and coffeemakers, and are stocked with cookware. All units have wooden balconies or porches, TVs, washers and dryers, and free Wi-Fi. Some condos have a pull-out staircase leading to a small lofted sleeping area that would be a good fit for children. Bathrooms are fairly standard with shower/tub combos.
Features
Large lagoon-like pool, indoor pool and whirlpool, and poolside bar and restaurant
Purple Parrot Village Resort has a large lagoon-style outdoor pool with waterfalls as well as a hot tub on a small island. Surf City Cabana Club is a colorfully decorated bar and restaurant with open-air seating by the pool, but it's open to the public and can sometimes draw a party crowd. Outside food and drink aren't allowed by the pool, so guests much purchase items from the bar, an annoyance for some. A sandy area with thatch umbrellas over wooden tables and corn hole is set up for guests to play. Breakfast is available seasonally and incurs an added fee. The property also has a big indoor pool and whirlpool. The on-site fitness center is small and the equipment is dated and rusty. There aren’t assigned parking spaces for each condo, making for a long walk back to the room at times. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
