Street’s nightlife, restaurants, and shops. The Truman is one of Key West’s
newest hotels, standing out from the many genteel Southern inns with its modern
decor and bright pops of color. There's a pretty courtyard pool where guests
can relax, and the free breakfast includes French pastries. Rooms are bright, clean, and funky, with zebra-striped rugs,
platform beds, and beautifully tiled bathrooms with huge walk-in showers.
Scene
Key West gentility combined with South Beach hipness; great for tourists, including families
The Truman Hotel is one of area's hipper
hotels, combining Key West’s cultured Southern flair with a bit of South Beach
trendiness. From the outside, the Truman looks newer than most of the area
inns, and its attractive, curtained balconies add to the upscale appearance of
the property. Inside, the walls are hung with local, mostly modern art, and lobby furnishings are minimal and stylish. There isn't enough lobby space for
gathering, but there is a very private-feeling courtyard pool, where the soothing
sounds of fountains, and relaxing underwater jets create an oasis. There are a
variety of outdoor seating areas, including clusters of modern black and gray armchairs, sunbeds, cafe tables, and couches under large, sheltering palms. The grounds aren't huge,
but there are plenty of old trees and little paths that make the space feel
private and exclusive, despite the small area. A continental breakfast is
served in an open-air cafe area by the pool, and a pitcher of fresh iced tea is ever present
on the poolside bar. The Truman is an affordable, up to date, and
ultra-civilized spot for a Key West vacation, suitable for all sorts of
tourists, including families.
Location
In Key West's Old Town, two blocks from Duval Street, close to everything
The Truman Hotel is in a great location for
tourists, on Truman Avenue in Key West’s Old Town. The property is just two blocks off popular
Duval Street, the center of the island’s nightlife, restaurant, and shopping
scenes. The Hemingway Home and Museum is a six-minute walk from the hotel; South
Beach and Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville cafe are a half-mile away. Tourists
will find this property centrally located, with most of Key West’s popular sights and hangouts within an easy walk.
Rooms
Clean and modern, with bright pops of color, and beautifully tiled bathrooms
Rooms and suites at the Truman Hotel are
moderately sized, but there is no extra space for additional rollaway beds or
cribs. The decor is clean and modern, with hardwood floors, olive-green accent walls, zebra-print rugs,
built-in desks, leather chairs, and platform beds with bright orange throws. Many rooms have picture windows, and private balconies or patios overlooking the
courtyard or Truman Avenue. Bathrooms are beautiful, with large, striking
shower stalls in mint-green and brown mosaic tiling, and contemporary glass sinks. Standard amenities include mini-fridges,
iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, free toiletries, and coffeemakers. Second-floor
rooms feel more private; both Truman Avenue and poolside rooms get some noise.
Features
Lovely courtyard pool, continental breakfast, and indoor parking
The Truman Hotel has a courtyard pool
with a lovely private deck lined with sunbeds and gracious palm trees. There's
a soothing fountain, and one end of the pool has jets for working out the post-flight kinks.
A free continental breakfast is served in the poolside bar area,
consisting mainly of pastries and assorted carbs. There is covered parking, a
luxury in parking-challenged Key West.
