Scene

Historic property in Old Town with antique furnishings and a sophisticated yet warm ambiance

Built in the 19th century, The Conch House Heritage Inn is operated by direct descendants of original Key West settlers --the great-grandchildren of an island grocer who helped ship provisions to Cuban revolutionists. The hosts' warm hospitality draws repeat guests who are mainly couples, as no children under 12 are allowed. The property comprises two white clapboard siding houses with black shutters, and there's a lovely front porch with rocking chairs where guests can kick back. Palm trees and tropical plants fill the grounds and shade the outdoor pool area, where there are lounge chairs and wooden Adirondack chairs. Interiors are quietly sophisticated with glistening wood floors, antique wood furnishings, richly patterned fabrics, gilt mirrors, colorful paintings, and ceiling fans. Guests check in at the antique wood reception desk, situated in a breezy room with historic photos on the walls and a large woven rug. Throughout the interior spaces are unique chandeliers and fresh flowers, furthering the elegant yet homey vibe.

Rooms

Comfy rooms with antiques and flat-screen TVs; some have balconies or porches

Rooms are in the main house, poolside cottage, or poolside cabana. All are individually decorated with wood antique furnishings. One room has an island feel, with wicker chairs and brightly colored oil paintings, while another is classic and more traditional, with a wood four-poster bed, crystal chandelier, and marble end tables. Each is air-conditioned and has a mini-fridge, flat-screen TV, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms have hairdryers and walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Some rooms have special touches like vaulted ceilings, tile floors, fireplaces, and porches. Of particular note are the Hemingway room, which has a walk-in shower with six showerheads; the Frangipani room, with a whirlpool tub and porch; and the Delaney Suite, with full kitchen and barbecue deck.
