Bottom Line

The 38-room, lower-middle-range Southernmost
Inn was converted from a late-1800s cigar factory and renovated in 2014.
The adult-only inn draws many couples, and feels like a classic Key West bed-and-breakfast, with a welcoming porch, plentiful outdoor
space for lazy days, antique furniture, and two pretty swimming pools with palm-shaded patios. Free breakfast includes Starbucks coffee, and chocolates are left on pillows. Guest rooms are spotless and minimally decorated, with flat-screen TVs, colonial wooden blinds, and wood floors. Walls are somewhat thin, and Wi-Fi strength varies at this no-frills -- but not bare-bones -- property that offers a simple and pretty bed-and-breakfast near the best sights in town. Guests traveling with children or wanting a livelier poolside scene could try Southernmost Hotel.

Scene

A former cigar factory with breezy, simple interiors and plenty of outdoor relaxing space

The Southernmost Inn was converted from a late-1800s cigar factory, and now looks like a quintessential Key West bed-and-breakfast, with pale green siding, white shutters, and two front porches. The grounds are full of palm trees that invite guests
to linger by one of the two outdoor pools, nursing fruity cocktails. The patio
is spacious and charming, with lots of pretty tropical flowers, woven lounge chairs,
and picnic tables shaded by beige or lime-green umbrellas for hanging out. The spa tub is sizable and pretty, with blue decorative tiling, and feels very
peaceful. There is an open-air poolside bar with lazy ceiling fans to combat
the Key West heat, and a disco ball for atmosphere. The vibe is relaxed and
chill, and the inn offers a variety of little touches that make guests feel
special, including chocolates on the pillows, free beach towels, and Starbucks
coffee. The hotel is an authentic Victorian house, but years of renovations
have not preserved the ornate woodwork characteristic of the period. The lobby and breakfast areas are simple and minimally decorated, with clean white walls, wood floors, and charming touches such as potted plants and wood ceilings fans. There's also a TV area with a woven couch, where guests can catch the morning
news or the day’s surf report. Best of all is the inn's location -- close to
everything and a block from Duval Street, which makes this a nice spot to wake up, for those who party, and those who don’t.

Location

A block from Duval Street nightlife, near all Key West attractions and popular South Beach

The Southernmost Inn is aptly named -- it is near the southernmost edge of Key West. It is conveniently located
for tourists, less than a block Duval Street, the epicenter of Key West’s
nightlife -- though the southern end of the street is quieter. The inn is also within walking distance to a variety of shops, restaurants, and galleries. South
Beach, Southernmost Point, the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, and the Hemingway Home and Museum are within a five-minute walk. The tiny, atmospheric Frenchie’s Cafe is about 50 feet from the inn’s front porch, and offers a memorable breakfast, served
indoors or out.

Rooms

Clean and simple, with wood floors and window blinds, and flat-screen TVs

Rooms at the Southernmost Inn were renovated in 2014. All are clean,
simple, and mostly white, with hardwood floors, colonial-style wood blinds, and charming, white bed frames. Some rooms are tiny; loft rooms have nice skylights, but
sloped ceilings make them less than ideal for taller visitors. Bathrooms are
modern and tiled in white, with tubs or shower stalls, and basic toiletries. Some rooms lack dresser and closet space,
and no coffeemakers are provided, but all guest rooms have flat-screen TVs with
cable, and some have mini-fridges. King Suites have two flat-screen TVs and living rooms with sleeper sofas. The building can be creaky, and noise travels; light sleepers should
request rooms away from the pool and the street. There are no elevators; guests
with mobility issues should request ground-floor rooms.

Features

Free continental breakfast, two outdoor pools, poolside bar, and fitness center

The Southernmost Inn offers a free
continental breakfast each morning -- although the spread is basic, with no meat, and served on
paper plates with plastic cutlery. There are two pretty outdoor pools and a
large spa tub for soaking, as well as a poolside bar that offers daily happy hour. In-room massages are available upon request. The fitness center is
tiny, with free weights and three cardio machines fitted closely together.
There are a computer and printer, as well as a washer and
dryer for guest use. Wi-Fi is free. Limited parking is available for a daily fee, and most guests find plentiful street parking for a lower price.
