Bottom Line

One of the six properties included in Historic Key West Inns, the tastefully renovated and mid-range Cypress House, on a quiet corner in old town, has 22 spacious rooms, and a comfortable outdoor pool area. It's a block from Duval Street, the seaport, and Key West’s many shops, restaurants, and bars. Free margaritas are served at a daily happy hour and breakfast is included in the rate. The historic hotel does not permit children. It may be worth checking rates at the nearby Coco Plum Inn and Bed and Breakfast, though you'll lose the free margaritas.

Scene

Faded wood exterior, elegant, beautiful interior

Situated in a beautiful old wood-paneled beach house, Cypress House has been exquisitely renovated. Elegant chandeliers and granite tile line the entryway. It has several terraces and lounge areas, and a long, narrow pool surrounded by cushy wicker armchairs. Breakfast is served in a large covered porch near the pool, which is surrounded by palm trees and leafy tropical plants. Kids aren't allowed here and the vibe is relaxed, calm, and LGBT friendly.

Location

One block to Duval Street, and close to the seaport

One block from busy Duval Street and its many restaurants, bars, and shops, Cypress House sits on a quiet corner among other lovely old buildings. The seaport is a few blocks away, less than 10 minutes walking distance, and Margaritaville, Mallory Square, and several other old-town attractions are nearby. The airport is about 20 minutes away by car, and the nearest beach as about a five-minute drive, or a 10-minute bike ride.

Rooms

High ceilings, comfortable beds, and modern amenities

All 22 of Cypress House’s rooms have high ceilings and thick walls that have retained the building’s original wood. Although art is minimal, all the rooms are nicely painted in soft pastel colors and hand-painted details include tropical murals on the ceilings. Each comes with a flat-screen TV, stainless steel mini-fridges, safes, lamps, new beds with plush mattresses, pillows, and padded headboards. Bathrooms have large glass showers, hairdryers, and high-end toiletries. Some rooms have private porches, and all have sitting areas outside the doors. Note that rooms facing the street can pick up external noise.

Features

Fun adult retreat with poolside happy hour

The free breakfast includes a variety of breads and bagels, fruit, cereal, eggs or omeletes. Light snacks and cocktails (including free margaritas) are served poolside every afternoon. There is free Wi-Fi throughout. There's a narrow but long lap pool surrounded by several comfortable lounge chairs. Parking is only available in a municipal lot down the street. While there isn't an on-site restaurant there are almost endless options for eating within walking distance.
