Offering what is easily one of the more scrumptious breakfasts of
any bed and breakfast in Key West, Coco Plum is a lovely, if slightly
dated, mid-range guesthouse just a block off bustling Duval Street in the heart of
old town. With made-to-order breakfasts and a small outdoor pool, it's slightly pricier than others in the area. With no special amenities for children, it is best suited to couples
wanting to soak up the scene of Key West.
Scene
Antiques paired with palm trees and gaudy wallpaper
Situated in a beautiful and historic Victorian house frequented by President Harry Truman and Ernest Hemingway, who
reportedly stopped by occasionally for a snooze on the porch on his way home,
Coco Plum has maintained much of its original look. Breakfast is served on the enclosed porch, and
there is a small swimming pool surrounded by rich green tropical foliage. The check-in area has a shiny old wooden desk with an antique chair,
and a colorful upholstered love seat. A small, shady
garden provides a nice spot to relax, as do the porch chairs outside the rooms.
Location
One block from Duval Street
One block from bustling Duval Street and its many shops,
restaurants, and bars, one of the hottest drinking holes -- the Green
Parrot -- is about three minutes away, while Key West’s historic pier, harbor, and
waterfront are less than a 10-minute walk down the road. Ernest Hemingway’s
house and museum are about seven minutes in the other direction, and the nearest
beach is about a five-minute drive or a 20-minute walk. The Key West Airport is about 15 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Cool, comfortable, and filled with vibrant colors
The rooms at Coco Plum Inn are small but comfortable. Each features a colorful array of dark purple and lavender
linens, satin curtains, and a lovely collection of antique wooden
furniture, headboards, dressers, and mirrors. King and Queen Rooms have lovely wood floors, updated tile bathrooms with modern Victorian-style faucets and finishes, ceiling fans and,
depending on the room, a vibrant lime-green color scheme. Some are painted with palm-leaf murals. Each room has Wi-Fi,
an individual air-conditioning unit, a dehumidifier, flat screen TV, coffeemaker,
microwave, and mini-fridge. Cleanliness isn't an issue but past guests have complained about loud air-conditioning units.
Features
Great breakfasts and pool but no parking
In addition to the delicious made-to-order, full plate
breakfasts that include eggs Benedict and strawberry-covered waffles, guests can use the pool 24 hours a day, along with the small, shaded garden
and patios. There is a small parking lot available for a small fee, but it must be
booked in advance. Coco Plum has no special services for infants, small
children or pets. The Coco Plum is more than happy to recommend restaurants and book tours.
