With only two rooms, the Atlantis House is an exclusive and private inn owned and maintained by a couple named Steve and Kayla. Unlike traditional hotels, the owners offer unique and personal services -- Steve is a licensed boat captain who takes guests on fishing excursions and Kayla is a licensed massage therapist. Both are excellent cooks. The two rooms are private and decorated in a bold and vibrant decor with wares from world travels. A long walk from the heart of Key West's bar district, Atlantis House is more suited for a couple looking for a weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Scene
An intimate, quiet inn
Atlantis House is a two-room bed and breakfast-style property that’s owned and managed by a couple (Steve and Kayla) who will not only cook for their guests, but will also pick them up from the airport, and take them out on private fishing and boating excursions. Guests are greeted by the owners and their dog with a welcome drink and a tour of the home. The two-story, peach-colored house is tucked away in a lush, entangled jungle of palm trees and tropical plants, and surrounded by a white picket fence. An expansive wooden deck features a set of brown whicker lounge chairs with red cushions, a gazebo-covered sitting area, and an outdoor living room-style set up that’s shielded by a red cabana overhang.
Location
Walking to distance to the beach, but farther away Duval Street
Nestled in a neighborhood of historic homes on a tropical tree-lined street, Atlantis House is situated in a quiet, historic section of Key West. It’s located farther from the entertainment and tourist attractions on Duval Street than other properties, but for adventurous guests, it is possible to walk (located about a mile and a half away) or ride one of the free bicycles outfitted with LED lights for nighttime excursions. Louie’s Backyard, a waterfront fine-dining restaurant that serves amazing fresh-squeezed margaritas, is located less than a mile away (about a 15 minute walk or a quick bike ride). The CB Harvey Rest Beach Park is located right next door to the bed and breakfast, and offers access to the surf and sand.
Rooms
Colorful, spacious suites
With only two rooms on the property, Atlantis House offers a quiet sanctuary for couples. Both rooms are decorated in bright colors and feature king beds with overstuffed pillows. The master suite is designed in a Middle Eastern vibe, including vibrant colors, oil lamps, candles, and peacock feathers. In the garden suite, Thai influences reign with colorful tapestries and shadow puppets on the walls. Amenities include a mini-fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, and bath robes. Free Wi-Fi is accessible in both rooms.
Features
Private fishing trips and a lush garden
Owners Kayla and Steve truly open their "home" to guests, greeting travelers with welcome drinks and offering to pick their guests up from the airport. Atlantis House is one of the few properties that will offer guests private fishing trips, then prepare a feast including the catch of the day. Steve is a licensed USCG Captain with a marine biology background, and offers private guided snorkeling tours, as well as eco tours to secluded beaches. Free bicycles are also available for guests to explore the area. On-site, there is a lush garden deck with several lounge chairs for sunbathing.
