Bottom Line

This charming mid-range bed-and-breakfast is close enough to Key West action to be considered convenient, but secluded enough to still be a relaxing retreat. With the Ambrosia within fast walking distance of Duval Street, Mallory Square, and the historic seaport, guests often venture out after enjoying the free daily breakfast served in a gazebo, but they can also be seen relaxing in the hotel's two pools, hot tub, or courtyard. There are 20 rooms here, each with its own distinctive theme, size, and pricing. Situated in a former tropical nursery, the grounds are lush and a popular site for destination weddings.

Scene

A tranquil escape that's still close to the action

Set on nearly two acres of island landscaping, Ambrosia
Key West gives the impression of being a tropical oasis. The entrance to the
hotel is framed by a white-palm-tree porch (seriously, there are palm trees
carved into the wooden railings) and a birdcage with living feathered friends.
Guests checking in at the rattan-furniture heavy lobby are greeted with a glass
of wine, a sure sign that vacation has commenced.  Though there’s an
on-site "business center" of sorts -- a computer, printer, and desk
for guest use – this property is most suited to tourists ready to relax. Several
structures comprise the Ambrosia, including the main building, the Ambrosia Too,
and the Ambrosia Annex.

Location

Conveniently situated in the heart of historic district

Located two-and-half-blocks from all the
entertainment on Duval Street and just around the corner from Nancy
Forrester's Secret Garden, this property is perfectly situated for exploring
the highlights of Key West. Audubon House and Mallory Square -- site of the
nightly Sunset Celebration -- are nearby attractions as well. The street
surrounding the Ambrosia is quietly lined with other residences and hotels that
are mostly restored Victorian conch houses. Area shops and restaurants are minutes away by foot.

Rooms

Thematic, spacious, and well-maintained with modern amenities

The 20 individually decorated guest rooms here are
unique in size and decor. There are themed units like the The Tree Top and
Ambrosia Suite as well as townhouses and a two-bedroom cottage. All are
beautifully maintained with plush bedding and modern amenities like free Wi-Fi,
flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and Keurig coffeemakers. Some of the larger
spaces have full-size refrigerators and kitchens, and most have at least mini-fridges
and microwaves. A few rooms have two floors and spiral staircases, and many
feature balconies or verandas, wood floors, and four-poster or canopy beds.Upscale Rusk toiletries
and cushy robes are available in all bathrooms, though layouts vary; some only include showers and others have hot tubs. All are clean and private, with
each room having its own facilities. Rooms also have individual climate
control in the form of ceiling fans and sometimes noisy air-conditioning
units.The Honeymoon Room -- a
second-story suite especially set up for couples looking for a romantic escape -- is a welcome touch for guests in town for a wedding, anniversary, or
just some quality time à deux.

Features

Two pools and a hot tub, free daily breakfast, and wedding services

The Ambrosia has two lovely pools -- a dipping
pool and a lap pool -- as well as a hot tub, which is impressive for such a
small property. Poolside, there are plenty of loungers, towels, snacks, and
sunscreen. (Keep in mind the pools actually don’t get a lot of daytime sun at
certain times of the year for those wishing to work on their tans.) The free
daily breakfast is also served in an on-deck gazebo, offering a varied
selection. With a nod to the Green
Movement, the hotel has in-room and poolside recycling receptacles. The property is kid-friendly, and children under 10 stay free in a paying adult's room. Pets are
welcome as well, but only one per booking and only in certain rooms for an additional
daily fee. Loud parties, however, are_ not_ welcome at the Ambrosia, though it's ideal for gatherings of a more romantic
nature. Full wedding services are provided for those seeking a destination
option in a tropical paradise.
