Alexander’s Gay and Lesbian Guesthouse

Located in historic Key West, Alexander's Guesthouse is an adult-only bed and breakfast-style property designed exclusively for the LGBT community and friends. Surrounded by a white-picket fence and flanked by two proudly displayed rainbow flags, the main house has a wide front porch with a rocking chair and cozy love seat. Inside the restored home, the living room has wood floors, white crown molding, and ivory-colored furnishings. Modern light fixtures hang from the ceiling and antique photos grace the walls.

Free breakfast and free happy hour are served near the pool area. There’s a spiral case that leads up to several sundecks, some of which are clothing optional. There are no restaurants serving lunch or dinner on the property, but there are many dining options located on Duval Street.

Situated on Fleming Street, Alexander’s Guesthouse is located about a 15-minute walk from all of the action and entertainment on Duval. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant that serves lunch or dinner, but there are many dining options and outdoor cafés located nearby. A variety of companies offer snorkeling trips and sailing excursions to places like the Dry Tortugas National Park. Other attractions, such as the Key West Lighthouse, Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, and Key West Aquarium are located within one mile of the hotel, easily reached by bicycle.

The 17 rooms at Alexander's are divided among the main house, guesthouse, and poolside cottage. Rooms are generally small, but designed with unique decor such as zebra-print rugs, black and white throw pillows, and brightly colored accent walls. Some of the larger rooms have private verandas and tend to book fast, with poolside rooms offering a better view and having less street noise. Unlike some of the other bed and breakfast style properties, all rooms have private bathrooms, although some are small and have little counter space. All rooms have a mini-fridge and flat-screen TV. A minimum nights' stay is required during the high seasons (especially during Fantasy Fest) and sometimes a deposit is required.

Free breakfast is served daily in Alexander’s modern kitchen, with stainless steel appliances and black onyx countertops. The morning meal includes homemade muffins, yogurt, fresh fruit, and a daily hot entree such as egg casserole or French toast. Double doors open out onto a breezy patio ornamented by a black and white striped awning. Lush foliage surrounds the pool and hot tub, providing shaded sitting areas to relax. There’s a tiny bar called the Pink Monkey tucked in the corner of the pool deck where free cocktails are served during happy hour. A spiral staircase leads to a series of three sundecks. (The top two are clothing optional.) Bicycle rentals are available on-site with free Wi-Fi available throughout the property.
