Florida City Travelodge is a one-story lower-mid-range motel with 88 rooms where the staff works hard to meet guests' needs. Within a 15-minute drive of the Everglades National Park and Alligator Farm, and Biscayne National Park, it's a good pit stop for those en route to the Keys. Rooms are clean and comfortable with basic decor and new appliances. You'll get lots of freebies (Wi-Fi, parking, and breakfast) and a heated outdoor pool. There are a few other hotels in the immediate vicinity, including the Best Western and the Quality Inn. All three offer the same amenities at similar prices, although the other two have conference centers.

At the Florida City Travelodge guests are greeted with a bag of popcorn at check in, which they can easily pop in the rooms' microwaves. The lobby is clean and decorated with marble tiling and yellow-and-green painted walls. African-inspired statues add interest. It shares space with Bear Bite, a small cafe where a free breakfast is served every morning. The cafe extends outdoors to a large tiki hut with tables and chairs.
On the grounds, guests park in front of their units -- the parking lot is clean with neatly manicured landscaping. There's a small laundry unit in an open-air room with two coin-operated washers and two dryers. The heated swimming pool is surrounded by white lounge chairs with khaki-colored cushions, as well as tiki umbrellas for shade when sitting at the little tables.

Located off U.S. Highway 1, this property makes a good resting point for long trips to Key West, or other islands in the Florida Keys. The area is known to be quiet and somewhat isolated. Nearby are the famed fruit stand and farm Robert Is Here, Everglades National Park, and the Coral Castle. The fast-food meccas of Denny’s, Subway, and McDonald’s are all less than two blocks away from the hotel and can be reached on foot. The Everglades, Coral Castle, the Homestead Sports Complex, and Schnebly Winery are within a 15-minute drive.

The clean rooms all have mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, safes, ironing boards, and 32-inch flatscreen TVs. Beds have fluffy comforters and padded headboards attached to the wall. Flooring is either green carpet or light wood panels. The walls are painted in light, neutral colors or with a colored accent wall for a simple overall decor. Air-conditioner units, though, can get loud. Bathrooms have granite sinks, and the hotel provides basic toiletries. Shower/tub combos are covered with a white fabric curtain. Some past guests have complained the showerheads need to be cleaned.
