This converted 12th-century mansion in a beautiful square on the banks the River Arno is one of the more historic hotels in the center of Florence. Some of the 171 elegant, luxurious rooms, including one that’s a favorite of actress Sophia Loren, overlook the river and have private balconies. The sixth-floor restaurant has stunning 360-degree views of the city and river. The decor blends classic, historical touches with modern sophistication. Just note that there is no spa, which some guests may expect at a hotel of this category.
Scene
Traditional, historic luxury hotel
The Westin Excelsior Florence has a classic Florentine look. The lobby has ornate gilded ceilings and black, white, and gold marble floors, while the rest of the hotel is filled with antique furniture and rugs. The Sesto on Arno restaurant is much more modern, with walls of glass and a dramatic black beamed ceiling. A similar mixture extends to the rooms: antique furniture is mixed with modern, stylish bedding and wall decor.
Location
On the elegant Piazza Ognissanti, close to Ponte Vecchio
The Westin Excelsior sits on the Piazza Ognissanti, one of the most elegant squares in the center of Florence, dominated by the Church of Ognissanti, or All-Saints Church. On the banks of the River Arno, it’s an easy 10-minute walk to both Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery. The hotel is also close to the Piazza di Santa Maria Novella.
Rooms
Stylish, light-filled rooms
The air-conditioned rooms have a chic look, with light-colored hardwood floors, gray walls, and circular beveled mirrors over cream-colored headboards. There are still some antique touches, such as armchairs upholstered in bright teal velvet and small chandeliers. Some rooms have private balconies overlooking the river. All rooms have flat-screen TVs with pay movies, minibars, and bathrobes. Large bathrooms have double marble vanities, large tubs, and separate glass-walled stall showers with rainfall shower heads.
Features
Modern rooftop restaurant with beautiful views, fitness center, and meeting rooms

Breakfast is served in the classic-looking breakfast lounge, filled with stained glass. The hotel has a small fitness room with a selection of machines and free weights as well as three meeting spaces. There are concierge services, free newspapers and coffee and tea in lobby, and dry cleaning and laundry services. Valet parking is available for an additional fee.
