The six-room Relais Villa
Antea is a three-pearl bed and breakfast that fully embraces its historic 19th-century
villa setting. Located in a quiet, residential neighborhood, the villa has been
in the owner’s family for over a century, and the antique furnishings, classical
art, and marble floors exude old-fashioned glamour. Breakfast is exceptional and bathrooms are bigger than in
most European hotels. It's located in a laid-back, low-key neighborhood, but the walk to the historic center of Florence can be a bit long. Slightly less
expensive, though equally grand, rooms can be found at B & B Emozioni
Fiorentine right in the heart of the city.
Scene
Grand 19th-century Tuscan villa with Baroque Revival accents
Housed in a historic 19th-century villa, everything about this bed-and-breakfast evokes old-world splendor. An ivy- and tree-lined courtyard, antique furniture,
marble floors, high ceilings, and classical paintings in the lobby and breakfast room, add to the villa's romantic ambience. As it's tucked away from the crowds of
central Florence, it attracts couples and other tourists who want a quiet Tuscan-style getaway within easy access of the city's attractions.
Location
In a quaint neighborhood outside historic center, and walks to some sights can be long
The Relais Villa Antea is located in a quiet, residential
neighborhood north of the city center. Two historic public gardens are within a few blocks of the bed-and-breakfast, and there are plenty of bakeries, cafes, and shops in the area. However, most of Florence’s major historic sights
involve a bit of a walk. The Accademia Gallery, the Central Market, and Fortezza de
Basso Conference Center are 15 minutes away on foot, while a 20-minute walk
leads to the Duomo. The Uffizi Gallery and the Arno River can take half an hour
to reach. Several public bus lines stop nearby and make trips to Florence’s historic center
in about 10 minutes. Santa Maria
Novella Train Station can be reached in 10 minutes by car, and a taxi to
Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci International Airport takes about 15 minutes (45
minutes by public bus).
Rooms
Large rooms with huge marble-lined bathrooms and antique charm
Guest rooms are large, with elegant decor that matches the grand furnishings in the rest of the hotel. Rooms have green satin curtains
and fringed valances, hardwood floors, antique furniture, and historic etchings
of Florence on the walls. All rooms have king-size beds (or twins upon
request), small desks, safes, and dressing areas, while Executive Rooms have
bureaus and upholstered lounge chairs. Slippers, safes, and
individually controlled air-conditioning and heat come standard, but the flat-screen TVs are small. All rooms have huge en-suite bathrooms with enormous walk-in showers and contemporary fixtures, though
some of the marble tiles are cracked. Executive Rooms have
separate bathtubs.
Features
Excellent free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, free loaner bikes, and pets welcome on request
Breakfast is included with
every booking and includes eggs made to order, Italian pastries, meats, and cheeses. Guests with special dietary requirements can request special meals ahead of time at no extra charge. The
breakfast room is furnished in the same old-fashioned style as the rest of the villa,
and guests can take the morning meal on a small balcony when the weather is nice, or in their rooms. Free Wi-Fi available throughout the villa and there are free bicycles
for guests to borrow. The front desk can book excursions,
sightseeing tours, and cooking classes, but it is not staffed 24 hours a day, and
there are fees for late check-ins. Pets are allowed with advanced notice and
parking is available on-site.
