- Bar with draft beer, Wi-Fi, and spectacular views over Florence
- Private tents available for up to three people
- Restaurant with wood-fired pizza oven

Bottom Line
Plus Camping Michelangelo is first and foremost a super low-budget camping option, with everything that entails. Besides the price, the the spectacular views over Florence are the best thing about this complex. The wood-fired pizza oven with a scenic terrace is also a bonus, and there is patchy Wi-Fi at the bar. There are, however, question marks around the maintenance of the bathroom areas and mosquitos are a problem, but if that doesn't faze you, you won't find a cheaper way to stay in this convenient location in Florence.

Scene
Shabby camping complex set in olive tree-shaded parkland
The Plus Camping Michelangelo is set in a sprawling tree-shaded area of parkland dotted with patches of grass and gravel connected by crumbling pathways. Basic wooden tables and benches and tents are dotted around the leafy grounds, whose vegetation largely made up off olive trees, low hedges, and shrubbery. The general mood is relaxed and friendly though the general condition of the complex is poorly maintained and in much need of a refresh. The campsite attracts the expected shoestring tourists and young backpackers who are happy to rough it if it means getting super-budget accommodation.
Location
Next to the Piazzale Michelangelo overlooking Florence and a mile from Ponte Vecchio
The complex is located a couple minutes' walk from the Piazzale Michelangelo -- a 19th-century piazza with panoramic views over Florence and the River Arno. Right next to the site is the Giardino dell'Iris botanical gardens and five minutes away on foot is the San Miniato al Monte basilica. It’s about a mile to the Ponte Vecchio bridge or half an hour walk into the historical center. There are buses than run into Florence, but they can fill up fast.
Rooms
No frills "house tent" with basic bed linen
If you're not bringing your own, accommodation is in the form of a three-person "house tent" with one bunk and one single bed. There are private or shared (mixed) options, tents can be locked, and bed linen is included (just a blanket and pillow). Towels are available for hire, and there are security boxes at reception. Tents can get hot in the summer and mosquitos can be an issue.
Features
Wood-fired oven cooked pizza and draft beer overlooking Florence
A highlight of the site is definitely the restaurant and bar which extends to a terrace with spectacular views over Florence -- it also has draft beer, an ATM, and a wood-fired pizza oven. Security patrols the site around the clock, and bathroom facilities are available, though not very well maintained (and no separate toilet paper for each cubicle). Wi-Fi is available in the bar area, though is patchy.
