This updated 15th-century villa, located on top of a hill just two miles north of Florence, offers five-pearl luxury in a stunning setting. There are beautiful views of Florence and the Tuscan countryside from many rooms, and 19th-century frescoes and antique furnishings. The food from chef Carmine Calò gets high marks. This Renaissance-era property is a splurge.

The hotel's free shuttle service into the city runs every hour from morning to evening, with a break for lunch. Guests looking to return during lunch, or have dinner in Florence, will need to take a taxi.

The 45 rooms, including 22 suites, with ochre walls and wide-plank dark hardwood floors, have a rustic elegance that matches the rest of the hotel. Beds have quilted fabric headboards and there are large picture windows, some with views of the Duomo. The Salviati De Luxe Rooms have arched windows with beautiful brickwork, while the Tegliac and Melodia suites, with fireplaces and leather couches, show old-world sophistication. All rooms include flat-screen TVs, Nespresso coffee machines, safes, robes, and minibars with free water. Bathrooms have LED-lit rain showers, and some have whirlpools or antique tubs. Room service is available.
