The 20-room, mid-range Hotel Perseo is ideally located less than two blocks from the Duomo, in the heart of historic Florence. This small, refined hotel is on the third, fourth, and fifth floors of a classic Florentine building, owned by an architect/designer and his wife. The building has been carefully renovated, with interesting ceilings, niches, and other architectural features. Rooms are immaculate, pretty and bright with small but modern, uncluttered bathrooms; many have views of the Duomo or the Bell Tower.
Scene
Small, family-owned hotel
The Hotel Perseo is small, bright, and cozy; the architect owner and his wife have renovated the hotel's three floors to create an airy, uncluttered space in the center of everything. There is an assortment of modern and period art on the walls, with comfy places to gather and relax. Each morning, a free continental buffet breakfast is served in the sunny breakfast lounge, and the selection varies slightly from day to day. The lobby is tiny but comfortable, with paintings on the walls, a cool cafe table with chairs and a cushy sofa, with a bar open 24/7, along with reception. The owners pay attention to the little details -- despite being in an older building, everything about the Perseo feels fresh.
Location
Near the Duomo and other city highlights, on a pretty cobblestone street
The Hotel Perseo is a one-minute walk from the Duomo, and some rooms have Duomo views. The location could not be more ideal for tourists, just a few blocks from the Uffizi, near the Ponte Vecchio, Santa Maria del Fiore, and pretty much everything else. The great location means that there is a lot of pedestrian traffic passing up and down the pretty cobblestone street outside, but the hotel is well-soundproofed, and noise is not a problem.
Rooms
Simple, clean, bright, and uncluttered rooms, with up-to-date bathrooms
Rooms at the Hotel Perseo are simply decorated, with bright bedspreads and pretty windows, some with window boxes. Rooms are not huge, but they have nice architectural features that make them interesting. Some have spectacular views of the Duomo or the picturesque bell tower. Bathrooms are tight (with some seriously tiny showers) but fixtures are modern; some guests have mentioned weak water pressure. An allergy-free room is available for guests with health issues.
Features
Free breakfast, 24-hour bar, and computer station
The Hotel Perseo offers a free continental breakfast buffet each morning, in the cheerful breakfast lounge. The owners take care to vary the selection slightly each day, which adds to the feeling of personal attention that comes with a stay here. The bar is open 24 hours a day, in case guests require an emergency Bellini or espresso in the wee hours, but there isn't an on-site restaurant. There is a free computer station with internet in the lobby for guests to use. Valet parking is available for a surcharge. The entire property is smoke free.
