Bottom Line

Hotel Crocini is a budget hotel housed in a grand 19th-century building on a quiet, elegant residential
street outside the city center. This charming Italian-style “pensione” has 20 rooms spread over three floors,
with views of the street or the pleasant courtyard and garden. Rooms are basic but bright -- with large windows -- and spotlessly clean if a bit old-fashioned. Be aware that Economy Rooms share bathrooms. Rates here are hard to beat, but travelers might want to also check out Hotel Costantini, another
budget option that's closer to the historic center.

Scene

Family-run hotel in a handsome, 19th-century building

Hotel Crocini has been run
as an Italian-style “pensione” since 1926. This handsome 19th-century building, with an arched doorway and tall shuttered windows, is on an
elegant street surrounded by similar period buildings. The large double doors
open onto a spacious entryway, lit by elegant old lanterns. Inside, the
building’s interiors seem to have changed little over the years, and interesting period features include a wrought-iron elevator, a winding stone
staircase, beautiful wooden doors, and antique furniture. The terra-cotta tiles,
Oriental carpets, classic-film posters, and stuffy armchairs in the reception area
contribute to an old-fashioned ambience. The courtyard and small tree-filled garden offer pleasant views from some of the rooms, and are inviting places to sit. Though the Crocini might seem dated to some, its period features make it a refreshing
alternative to cookie-cutter budget chain hotels. This property a popular choice for budget-minded couples and families -- some Family Rooms can sleep up to five.

Location

In a quiet and elegant neighborhood outside the city center

Hotel Crocini is located on
an elegant residential street in a quiet neighborhood, which is about a 20-minute walk to the historic center. The Arno
River is a block away, and the city’s main train station, Santa Maria
Novella, is a 12-minute walk from the hotel. The Crocini is well connected to the city center by public
transportation, with bus routes A, B, and D running along
Via Magenta, a neighboring street. The Duomo is about 20 minutes away by bus, as is the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery. Florence Airport is a 25-minute drive away.

Rooms

Clean and bright rooms with high ceilings and large, shuttered windows

The 20 guest rooms are spacious, with high ceilings and large windows with wooden
shutters, which give the otherwise basic rooms a bit of grandeur.
The walls and furniture are painted a stark white, and floors are covered
in terra-cotta or mosaic tiles. Though the style is dated, especially in the
bathrooms, rooms are spotlessly clean. Economy and
Standard Rooms have views of the street below, while Superior Rooms face
the inner courtyard and garden. Family Rooms
can sleep four or five: One of them has two adjoining rooms that share a bathroom.Economy Rooms share bathrooms but have sinks. Shared bathrooms are in the hallway, and tend to be small wet rooms with no shower basins or stalls. All
rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, hairdryers, mini-fridges, safes, and
free Wi-Fi. Superior Rooms also have electric kettles for tea and coffee, and their bathrooms include shower/tub combos and toiletries.

Features

Free breakfast, computers and printer, on-site parking, free Wi-Fi

Hotel Crocini offers a free buffet breakfast, which is served every
morning in the pleasant breakfast room overlooking the garden. Two computers and a printer are available for guests' use in the
reception area, but guests are charged for the Internet connection there. There’s also a sitting area with a couch and television in the lobby.
On-site parking is available for an extra fee, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the
property.
