The historic Hotel Berchielli, where Pablo Picasso stayed for an extended period in late 1949, is literally steps from the Ponte Vecchio and in the heart of Florence's best concentration of museums, shopping, and restaurants. The 76 classically decorated rooms and suites -- some with incredible views of the Arno, the iconic medieval bridge, and the Oltrarno neighborhood -- are spacious by Florence standards, and come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are stocked with boutique Etro toiletries, but note that the shower/tub combos in some bathrooms have handheld showerheads. Modernists may prefer the nearby and stylish Continentale Firenze, whose rooftop bar practically hovers above the Ponte Vecchio, but its rates can cost many times those of Hotel Berchielli.
