Bottom Line

The 13-room Hotel Benvenuti is a modest, colorfully painted, budget property in walking distance to the Duomo and the Accademia Gallery with Michelangelo’s David statue. The hotel has a small breakfast lounge, a 24-hour bar, concierge service, luggage storage, and 24-hour front desk service. Rooms are simple and brightly hued, with flat-screen TVs and either private or shared bathrooms. Furnishings throughout are on the dated side and some guests have complained about cleanliness consistency, but Wi-Fi is free. The Plus Florence hostel, which attracts young backpackers, is an alternative vaule property with better maintained interiors.

Scene

Cheerful budget property with brightly painted interiors and a central location

The Hotel Benvenuti is a budget property that’s set on the second floor of a 19th-century building that houses other businesses and hotels. A charming old-fashioned gated elevator services its four floors. Bright red and yellow designs dominate the interiors with furnishings that are comfy if dated, but the color combinations can be a bit jarring at times, and some areas need touch-ups. Hallways have red-painted ceilings, red carpeting, and white walls. The red-on-red reception area features a small front desk under an archway. Common areas are limited, but there's a breakfast lounge and bar with eclectic decor on red-painted walls. Overall this two-pearl hotel is an attractive pick for budget travelers seeking inexpensive rooms within walking distance to the Duomo and David statue.

Location

Slightly outside Florence’s city center, but in walking distance to the Duomo

Conveniently situated by the Orto botanical gardens, this hotel is in walking distance to museums, including the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze (seven minutes away) that houses the famous David statue. The heavily trafficked Piazza della Liberta is north of the hotel, five minutes on foot. For dining and shopping, there’s the nearby San Lorenzo Market, which is 12 minutes away on foot on the way to the city center and the Duomo, another five minutes farther. It’s a 20-minute bus ride to reach the Uffizi Gallery, which is located by the medieval Ponte Vecchio that stretches across the Arno River. The Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace are 30 minutes away by public transportation. And Florence Airport is 30 to 40 minutes by public transportation.

Rooms

Budget rooms with colorful textiles, classic decor, and free Wi-Fi

Rooms here are colorful with splashes of red and yellow paint. Decor overall is minimal, in a typical budget fashion, with functional furniture and little in the way of extras. Four of the 13 rooms have shared bathrooms (reflected in a cheaper rate). Triple and Quadruple Rooms, which come with three and four beds, suit families or groups. Most rooms offer flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, basic desks, and wardrobe closets; some also have mini-fridges. Private bathrooms are small with cramped stall showers and hairdryers. Note that guests who book rooms directly with the hotel get free upgrades and breakfast. Wi-Fi is free throughout, but some guests have complained about cleanliness consistency in the rooms.

Features

Breakfast lounge and on-site cocktails, 24-hour front desk service, and free Wi-Fi

With space at a premium, the Hotel Benvenuti has turned its only lounge area into a dining room and a parlor that features comfortable, if dated, seating and a piano. The breakfast dining area offers tables with yellow and burgundy tablecloths, large windows, a flat-screen TV, and a bar that’s open 24 hours a day. The front desk is also manned 24 hours a day, and staff can help store guests’ bags, make tour arrangements, or book reservations in the city. Wi-Fi is free and available in the common areas and in rooms. The hotel has a pet-friendly policy, for a fee.
