The upscale Forte16 is a stylish, modern hotel situated
away from the bustle of the tourist-filled areas of Florence, but within walking
distance of restaurants, public transportation, and some attractions. Its 44
apartments are sophisticated and spacious, offering kitchenettes, pullout
sofas, and free Wi-Fi, however, housekeeping services are only provided every
two days. The indoor pool and spa are popular spots as is the rooftop
terrace, which will be even more enticing when a rooftop bar opens in 2017. But it may be worth comparing rates with the Grand Hotel Minerva, which is a five-minute walk from the Duomo and includes a rooftop pool.
Scene
Stylish hotel opened in 2014 with a rooftop terrace and lovely garden
This stylish hotel opened in May 2014
after undergoing a huge refurbishment. Modern
touches make the lobby a stylish space with sleek dark wooden floors, a silver
front desk, an artistic square hanging light, and brown leather butterfly chairs. The
outdoor courtyard has a patch of green grass surrounding a brick-colored water
fountain. The rooftop terrace has parquet wooden floors and a number of levels
that are covered with a mix of outdoor furniture such as cushioned rattan couches, plastic tables and chairs, and loungers. On our visit, the hotel was in the process of installing a rooftop bar that was expected to be completed in 2017. Most
guests are couples and families attracted by the property's spacious
apartments and indoor pool.
Location
Near public transportation and dining, about a 15-minute walk to the city center
Forte16 is located just off the SS67
highway in an area removed from the hordes of tourists that this historic city is filled with. It's surrounded by streets
that have a few shops and a diverse selection of restaurants; Piazza Cesare
Beccaria is a two-minute walk away. There's a bus stop just down the street, and it's a 10-minute walk to the Firenze
Campo di Marte railway station. Several tourist attractions and historic
areas are within walking distance, but some are a bit of a hike. The iconic Florence Cathedral is about a 20-minute walk from here, as are the Palazzo Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery. The Basilica of Santa Croce is a 15-minute walk, while the Ponte Vecchio is a 23-minute walk or about a 10-minute bus ride. The airport is a 25-minute drive, or 30 to 45 minutes via public transportation.
Rooms
Apartment-style rooms with flat-screen TVs and kitchenettes
The hotel has 44 apartment-style rooms
that range from open studio or loft plans to suites with separate bedrooms. All
are spacious and stylishly decorated with modern chocolate-brown or gray-brown
furniture, wooden floors, white linens, cream bed runners, and sometimes a
bold colorful accent wall. Many of the rooms include a single or multiple pullout
couches to accommodate families or groups; some have balconies. All rooms
feature air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and safes. They also
have kitchenettes with mini-fridges, microwaves, sinks, dishwashers, two-burner
stoves, silverware and dishes, and coffee machines. Bathrooms have trendy bowl vessel
sinks and either glass walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Hairdryers and
toiletries are provided. Note
that housekeeping only comes every two days; daily
cleaning services incur an additional fee.
Features
Indoor pool, spa, rooftop terrace, courtyard, breakfast buffet, and free Wi-Fi
Forte16 has many outstanding features,
but none more so than its elegant indoor heated pool. While it's a little small
for a genuine lap swim, it's good for a refreshing splash, plus it’s housed in
the same area as the hot tub, saunas, and Turkish bath. The beauty center
offers massages and beauty treatments. The rooftop terrace provides a lovely setting
and views from comfortable outdoor patio furniture and tables, while the
outdoor courtyard has a charming fountain with shaded tables and chairs. The property
does not have a restaurant for lunch and dinner, but it provides a basic breakfast
buffet for an additional fee. The hotel has plans for a rooftop bar, which is scheduled to open by 2017. There’s
free Wi-Fi throughout the property. On-site parking is available and pets are
welcome, but both require a fee.
