Bottom Line

The two-pearl
Budget Inn in downtown Flagstaff is a no-frills property off historic Route 66, within walking distance of restaurants and Northern Arizona University. Its 38 rooms, some of which have views of the surrounding mountains, come with mini-fridges, microwaves, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel is a good stopover for travelers en route to the Grand Canyon and other points south, or for those visiting the nearby university or looking to ski and snowboard at Snowbowl, which is a 15-minute drive away. Rates are among the lowest in town, but travelers could also check out the Days Hotel Flagstaff, which has a restaurant, indoor pool, whirlpool, and sauna for slightly higher rates.

Scene

A motor court hotel attracting travelers en route to the Grand Canyon and points south

The Budget Inn is a humble, motor-court hotel, but it's not unpleasant. The light-wood and granite and gray-tile lobby of this two-story property is
small but bright, with lots of windows that make the yellow walls glow with natural light and the space seem larger. Two upholstered chairs flank the front door, and a rack of tourist
brochures sits in a corner next to a station set up for free coffee and tea. The registration desk has an enlarged photo of the Grand Canyon behind it, which is the final destination for many guests that use this small hotel as a quiet stopover.

Location

South of downtown Flagstaff, a five-minute walk to Northern Arizona University

Off historic Route 66, the Budget Inn is a three-minute drive north of downtown Flagstaff. Its sits on the main thoroughfare of South Milton, and is surrounded by restaurants, gas stations, small businesses,
and other hotels. The closest restaurant is the next-door diner, and there's a  Dunkin
Donuts within a two-minute walk. Walgreen’s is a minute's walk from the hotel,
and Northern Arizona University is a five-minute walk. It’s a few minutes’
drive to where Interstate 17 intersects with Interstate 40, so connections
throughout Flagstaff are easy. Snowbowl, with its skiing and snowboard facilities, is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. The city’s Amtrak station is a
six-minute drive (or a 15-minute walk), and the Flagstaff Pulliam Airport is an eight-minute drive. Grand Canyon National Park is about an 80-minute drive from the hotel, and the Sedona Airport  is about an hour's drive. Phoenix Sky Harbor
International Airport is about a two-hour drive.

Rooms

Clean, basic rooms with microwaves, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi

The 38 rooms at the Budget Inn are spacious, clean, and no-frills. All rooms are accessed from the exterior, but some have views of the surrounding mountains. Rooms come in King, Queen, and Double Queen configurations, and they include microwaves, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Some of the walls are cinder block, painted
yellow to match the other walls. Bedspreads are gold, as are the
drapes, and the carpets are in a checked pattern of gray, crimson, and gold. Matching reddish-brown wood furniture includes headboards, nightstands,
dressers, and side tables (there are no desks), with two matching upholstered chairs. Mounted wall racks with hangers serve as closets. Bathrooms include roomy white acrylic vanities, green floor tiles, and acrylic
shower/tub combos. Hairdryers and basic toiletries are included. Rooms lack coffeemakers, and while the hotel is generally quiet considering it's on a major road, ambient,
room-to-room noise can be heard at times.

Features

Free coffee and tea available in the lobby, parking, and Wi-Fi

The Budget Inn Flagstaff has low rates and few perks. There is no breakfast service, but guests can grab their morning meal at the adjacent diner, and there's a Dunkin Donuts within a two-minute walk. The nearby restaurants will also deliver meals. Coffee and tea are available all day in the lobby, which is staffed  24/7. Free Wi-Fi is available
throughout the property, and there's ample free parking -- guests staying on the ground floor can easily park right outside their rooms.
