Complaints concerning cleanliness issues
The three-pearl Saboia Estoril Hotel is a modern property within walking distance to the beach. The 48 rooms are brightly decorated, but a bit tight on space, and include flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. Many also have balconies with sea views. The property has a few issues, however, including wear and tear on some of the decor and complaints concerning room cleanliness, but amenities are attractive for a mid-range hotel. There’s an outdoor pool with a cabana patio area, a small gym, a popular bakery, a bar, and a business center. Travelers may want to compare rates with the Hotel Lido which has a rooftop terrace and similar rates.
Scene
Contemporary hotel with some wear and tear; popular with couples
Saboia Estoril Hotel occupies an attractive white building in Estoril, near the town of Cascais. Decor is a mix between modern and homey. Guests enter a fairly small, plain lobby with a large front desk across from a couch flanked by potted trees. From the lobby, guests can access a lounge area that’s serviced by a small wooden bar. The lounge has a mix of rustic decor including worn wooden furniture and exposed stone walls, and contemporary decor in large comfy gray couches, sleek white shelves filled with books, and modern tables made of glass. The most impressive space of the hotel is the breakfast room and bakery, with tiled floors, brown leather booths and plush magenta armchairs, hanging yellow lamps, and small wooden tables with sleek plastic chairs. The hotel was last refurbished in 2008, so it’s no surprise that there’s some wear and tear to the public spaces. This property draws mostly couples who value its proximity to the beach and the diverse on-site amenities.
Location
Within walking distance of the beach, casino, and public transportation
The neighborhood surrounding this hotel consists mostly of residential homes and a few restaurants and shops here and there. Still, it’s a good location with popular areas of interest within walking distance. The Cascais city center, with plenty of spots to eat and shop, is a 25-minute walk from the hotel, though guests can opt to take a train that stops a 10-minute walk away. The beach is an eight-minute walk, while Casino Estoril takes 19 minutes to reach on foot. The historic town of Sintra is an easy day trip from this hotel as it’s only a 20-minute drive away. It’s a half-hour drive to Lisbon Portela Airport.
Rooms
Colorful rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges
Rooms here are snug and similar in style, but color schemes vary. The headboards, accent walls, and throw pillows all come in a single bright pop of color, like magenta, orange, or neon yellow. The result is a bright and fun atmosphere. All have bedside tables, built-in shelves, and small desks illuminated by pendant lights. Despite their cheery look, rooms show some signs of wear and tear, and past guests report cleanliness issues. Amenities include flat-screen TVs (in a range of sizes), air-conditioning, safes, and mini-fridges. Some upper-level rooms have espresso-makers. Most rooms face the sea and have furnished balconies, while others have city views and lack balconies. Bathrooms have colored statement walls that reflect the main color of the bedroom area and are outfitted with vessel sinks, bidets, shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries.
Features
Pool, gym, bakery with light meals, bar, and meeting room
Saboia Estoril Hotel packs in some nice amenities for a relatively small hotel, including a relaxing pool area with lounge chairs and outdoor patio furniture under cabanas. There’s a small gym that includes a treadmill, a bike, free weights, and a single weight-training machine. Dining options include a Portuguese bakery that’s popular with the locals and sells light meals in addition to pastries. A breakfast buffet is served in the morning and is included in the room rate, and there’s a bar that provides a variety of drinks throughout the day. Business guests can make use of a single fully equipped meeting room and a business center with a desktop and printer. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, but on-site parking incurs a fee.
