Bottom Line

The mid-range Ridgeline Hotel offers modern, full-service facilities in a convenient Estes Park location. The former Rocky Mountain Park Inn reopened in mid-2017 after a major renovation that created a stylish lobby and new restaurant and bar. Highlights include a large conference center, spacious indoor pool, fitness center, guest laundry, and free parking and Wi-Fi. Most of its 147 guest rooms received top-to-bottom renovations and have rustic-chic decor. Standard units in the older West Wing were only given a refresh, and while they're comfortable, the overall look is a bit dated. All units come equipped with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. The nearby Quality Inn Estes Park offers similar rates that include a free hot breakfast.

Scene

An attractive lobby and relaxed vibe, with frequent weddings and events

The hotel is housed in a somewhat dated, mountain-lodge-style building, but the chic decor in the lobby, restaurant, and bar could easily be found in a trendy, urban boutique hotel. There's sleek wood paneling used throughout, chrome fixtures above the reception desk, and a lounge with sophisticated, neutral-tone furniture set in front of a modern fireplace. Latitude 105 Alehouse, just off the lobby, has an inviting, open-plan layout, with stamped metal ceilings and a cluster of rocking chairs next to the large bar. The property tends to draw leisure travelers and guests here for on-site events such as conferences and weddings.

Location

Centrally located in Estes Park, and 10-minute drive to Rocky Mountain National Park

The hotel is set on a hilltop near Estes Lake. It’s about a 10-minute walk into the heart of town, and there are several restaurants and shops within a shorter walk. Estes Park Visitors Center is eight minutes away on foot, and the iconic Stanley Hotel is a three-minute drive. Open Air Adventure Park is four minutes by car, and the eastern entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is about a 10-minute drive. Denver International Airport is roughly 90 minutes away, and driving to Boulder takes approximately one hour.

Rooms

Some are fully renovated, while others include limited upgrades

All guest rooms received top-to-bottom renovations in 2017 except those in the West Wing (Standard and pet-friendly rooms), which were only given a refresh with new mattresses, carpet, bedding, and drapes. While the overall look is still dated, rooms are tidy and comfortable, with enough space for armchairs and ottomans and small tables with chairs. Matching wood furniture has a reddish-brown finish, walls are done in pale yellow and accented with milk-chocolate brown, and framed photographs of nature add a splash of color. Decor in renovated rooms is rustic with hip, modern spin, and spaces are cozily accented with knitted blankets on beds, ceramic vases, and retro clocks on nightstands. All units have flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, microwaves, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi, and larger Premium rooms add wet bars, sleeper sofas, and gas fireplaces. Bathrooms in Standard rooms have dated, Formica-style lavender vanities, with sleeker fixtures in renovated units. Both styles contain shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries. Some rooms have distant mountain views, but others simply overlook the property’s grounds.

Features

Inviting restaurant and bar, spacious pool, and tons of event space, but dreary gym

Meetings and weddings are frequently held at the hotel, which features a large conference center and a Grand Ballroom that can host events for up to 750 people. Dining is another highlight -- Latitude 105 Alehouse is an attractive eatery and bar, with daily happy hour specials and craft beers on tap. Eats such as gourmet burgers and salads are served for dinner daily and lunch on weekends, and grab-and-go breakfast items (fee) are available. There's an indoor heated pool and whirlpool surrounded by plenty of loungers, and the hotel also has a fitness center with modern equipment, but the room doesn't get natural light and looks dreary. Other amenities include a guest laundry room, valet dry cleaning and laundry service, and a game room with a pool table, foosball, air hockey, and board games. Parking in a spacious surface lot and Wi-Fi throughout are free, and pets are welcome with some restrictions. Travelers with limited mobility should be aware that the three-story West Wing doesn't have an elevator.
