Bottom Line

The Della Terra Mountain Chateau is a romantic hotel in the shadow of Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park. A 14-suite boutique hotel geared toward couples, its rooms are large, each with a plush sitting area, deep-set copper soaking tub, and two-person hot tub on a porch or balcony. The views are majestic and the location remote -- it's best for romantic getaways and the hotel hosts a great deal of weddings. Children are not allowed to stay overnight. A decadent free breakfast is served in guest rooms or in the restaurant, and the hotel has a spa and sauna, and a private theater. Wi-Fi is free. Guests could also consider the Estes Park Resort, which allows children and also hosts weddings.

Scene

Rustic and romantic, with mountain views

The Della Terra Mountain Chateau is a lovely hotel with modern rooms nestled among the mountains. A large stone and timber complex, the chateau achieves a rustic, European vibe, with a central fire hearth surrounded by dark brown leather chairs and couches and a small Roman-like fountain in one corner. The hotel hosts a lot of weddings and has a grand stone patio that overlooks the mountains and is surrounded by a small garden and a rock-enclosed pond. In addition there's a large banquet hall with beautiful hanging pendant lamps and large windows from which light pours in during the day. Guests are often couples on romantic getaways.

Location

Mountainside location feels remote, but town is not too far

Tucked into the Rocky Mountains, with views in all directions, the Della Terra Mountain Chateau feels purposely remote, offering quiet and breathtaking views. The hotel doesn't serve meals after breakfast though, so guests will have to trek down the mountain, about a 10-minute drive, for lunch and dinner. Options include the Estes Park Brewery and a casual pizza place. Just outside the hotel, Rocky Mountain National Park offers hundreds of miles of hiking trails and plenty of wildlife watching. Denver International Airport is an hour and 30 minutes away.

Rooms

Large, beautiful, and unique, with spa-like bathrooms

The Della Terra Mountain Chateau is made up of 14 suites, each decorated and named uniquely, but with the same layout. The rooms are somewhat oddly shaped, with beds and sitting areas diagonal to each other, and the bathrooms cutting into the space between. The design lets natural light flood through, and creates more space for the bathrooms, which are almost like mini-spas with deep-seated copper tubs, fountains, and showers. Each room also has a two-person hot tub on a personal balcony or terrace. Rooms have ranging styles but all maintain a rustic, mountainy feel with stained wood furniture and leather couches. Each room comes with a see-through fireplace, flat-screen TV, iPod hookup, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel also has five cabins with full kitchens; these don't include access to the free breakfast, spa, or sauna within the chateau, however.

Features

Small spa, private theater, decadent breakfast, and relaxing views

Beyond its gorgeous views, the hotel runs a small spa with massage and body treatments available, and has a dry heat sauna, as well. There's a small theater, equipped with leather recliner seating and a projector, which can be reserved by hotel guests free of charge. In addition, there's a computer station near the lobby with a printer. Free breakfast is served daily from a quaint breakfast nook overlooking the lower floors, and alternates between decadent savory and sweet items; guests may also dine in their rooms. There is free coffee, water, and tea available throughout the day. Wi-Fi is free.
