This restored 18th-century, salmon-colored building was built over small caves and tunnels, with stone walls and rough-hewn wood beams filling the elegant space. The rooms are divided up among the original building and a more modern one, though both are linked and have a luxurious feel. The Rosa d'Oro Resort room -- housed over three floors in an ancient tower with a private mini spa and hot tub -- is a standout. The hotel is on the main cobblestone street in the center of the small and quiet hillside village of Verucchio and most rooms overlook the countryside below. There are restaurants within walking distance and it’s a half-hour drive to the beaches of Rimini.
