Scene

One-of-a-kind setting with contemporary art, period architecture, and cozy gathering spots

The Bonham is a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel with a luxury vibe that makes it one of Edinburgh’s favorites. Built in three Victorian townhouses, it fits seamlessly into the neighborhood of old stone buildings and cobblestoned streets. The architecture and interior design, however, combine original period details with chic, contemporary touches, like the lobby's massive lamp-shade chandelier. In addition, the walls are lined with contemporary art, a permanent collection that includes 30 local Scottish artists, and striking black and white photographs. Colors throughout the interior are vibrant and dramatic, and the textiles are lush and local, including a variety of tartans, tweeds, and rich but understated wool draperies. A beautiful bay window with ornately carved woodwork is the home of a mod, spiral sofa in bright red. Guests will find plenty of cozy gathering spots, including the clubby-feeling lobby bar with its checkerboard floors, fireplace, and comfortably elegant arm chairs in heather-gray houndstooth and studded brown leather. The scent of fresh flowers permeates the common areas and guest rooms. The restaurant is spacious and masculine, with handsome black leather chairs, buffed wood tables, and a variety of scotch whisky. Tourists and business travelers alike are drawn to the Bonham's charms.

Location

On a quiet old street, around the corner from shopping, dining, and pubs

The Bonham is located in Edinburgh’s West End, in a quiet but grand neighborhood filled with stately old buildings and lined with cobblestoned streets. Around the corner from the hotel is the heart of the city with its shopping, dining, pubs, and people-watching. Princes Street, the theater district, and the Edinburgh International Conference Center are all within about 15 to 20 minutes' walking distance, as is Haymarket Station. The Royal Mile is about one mile away, and it's about a 15-minute walk to the city center.

Rooms

Guest rooms as works of art, with luxury touches and exquisite design

Rooms at The Bonham are works of art, each individually designed and decorated with an eye toward balancing period architectural details with upscale, modern furniture and native Scottish textiles. Some rooms are done in a light gray and brown palette with pops of bright orange, violet, and green. Tufted furniture and geometric patterns are a nod to Hollywood Regency style. Others are plush and more subdued, lined with burgundy wallpaper and carpets, and crystal-trimmed curtains. All have striking headboards, high ceilings, and gorgeous modern bathrooms -- some with checkerboard tiling. Most rooms have shower/tub combos, but a few have separate walk-in showers and soaking tubs. Amenities are as expected for a luxury hotel: flat-screen TVs, minibars, coffee/tea makers, hairdryers, irons, and free Wi-Fi. Back-facing rooms have great city views, many overlooking the Firth of Forth.

Features

Scottish breakfast, boozy weekend brunches, afternoon tea, and doggie welcome packages

The Bonham serves a delicious full Scottish breakfast, with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients, and it's included in some room rates. The Restaurant serves French cuisine with a Scottish twist, and offers Market Menus with seasonal ingredients, and popular “Boozy Snoozy” weekend brunches. The Consulting Room bar is a cozy spot for cocktails, afternoon tea, or a nightcap with friends. The Bonham is pet-friendly, and dogs receive special canine welcome packages. The hotel offers fun, special events including chef’s evenings, wine classes, and a cupcake masterclass.
