Scene
Stylish, busy property with striking, imposing architectural design
The InterContinental is one of Dusseldorf’s largest, most impressive hotels, a towering property with striking design throughout. The bright, airy lobby’s glass ceiling stretches nine stories, with murals of well-known German personalities at the top. Down below, the contemporary front desk, with an attractive black countertop, sits beneath a gold-leaf design feature. Retro tub chairs in a mismatch of bright colors provide seating along with a striking green leather couch with a button-tufted back. There’s a large-scale, industrial ambience to parts of the design, such as glass elevators heading up to smart hallways, which sport beige carpeting, striped wood paneling, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Pega restaurant balances a neutral look with suspended red lanterns in the windows, cozy Bar Fifty Nine has seats upholstered in whites and pinks, and the stylish club lounge balcony sports handsome built-in dark-wood fixtures. All of it adds up to a property that's stylish but stops short of being cutting edge.
Location
Charming Old Town location, close to shops, restaurants, attractions, and the subway
On a posh block in one of Dusseldorf’s most affluent quarters, the InterContinental fronts a grass-banked canal on a quiet, tree-lined street. The hotel is in the city’s Old Town on the east bank of the Rhine River, surrounded by high-end boutiques, as well as plenty of cafes and restaurants. Many of the city’s tourist attractions are also within walking distance, as is the nearest subway station.- Three-minute walk to the Konigsallee shopping street
Rooms
Tastefully decorated rooms with lovely bathrooms -- but many have windows that face internally
InterContinental Dusseldorf's 287 rooms are modern and furnished in a subdued style with the signature touches of the InterContinental brand. They have underfloor heating, comfortable beds with lovely throws and off-white fabric headboards, contemporary cream-colored walls and carpeting, and bedside tables with elegant lamps and built-in reading lights. Wood-paneled accent walls have windows (with blinds) to the bathrooms. Rooms have neutral armchairs, stylish glass oval desks, and dark-wood cabinets, plus floor-to-ceiling windows. Executive Rooms add chic sofas, while Suites have separate living rooms with sofas, armchairs and desks. Higher-priced rooms also have long, narrow, street-facing balconies with simple seating.Sleek bathrooms -- uniform across the board -- have cream-colored wall and floor tiling, large elegant black marble vanities with submerged sinks, soaking tubs, and spacious walk-in showers with rainfall and power showerheads.Standard amenities include large flat-screen cable TVs, phones, free Wi-Fi, safes, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and well-stocked minibars, plus hairdryers, robes, irons, ironing boards, and free miniature toiletries. Smoking rooms are also available.
