The aptly named Inn on Lake Superior is situated in a prime spot on the lake it's named after in the vibrant Canal Park Warehouse District. Views of the lake from the mid-range hotel are spectacular, and there are many shops, restaurants, and the Aerial Lift Bridge within a 10-minute walk. There's plenty to do at the hotel as well, with indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, hot tub, and game room. The 174 contemporary guest rooms can include lake views and hot tubs. Guests start their day with the free buffet breakfast and end them with free s'mores by the lake in the evening. Nearby Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark has an indoor water park, but the location isn't as convenient.
Scene
Contemporary inn with Lake Superior views
The Inn on Lake Superior has a contemporary style and takes advantage of Duluth's natural beauty and proximity to the lake. The grounds are nicely landscaped with flowers and trees accenting the brick facade. Outdoor benches and tables and chairs allow guests to pause for lake views or dine alfresco. The lobby is warm and inviting, with a stone fireplace, large windows, and sofas and chairs for lounging. A slanted ceiling gives a nautical vibe, and there are tasteful framed paintings of umbrellas on the beach. Miniature ships on display add a pleasant touch. Guests are a mix of couples and families on vacation.
Location
Beautiful lakeside setting in the heart of Canal Park
The Inn on Lake Superior is situated in Duluth's Canal Park Warehouse District, home to shopping, dining, museums, the Aerial Lift Bridge, and ships coming in and out of port. It's a six-minute walk from the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center for concerts, sports, and conventions, and a five-minute walk from the Vista Fleet excursion boats for tours of the Duluth and Superior harbors. The William A. Irvin Museum and Lake Superior Marine Museum are among the museums within a short walking distance, and guests can walk, bike, skate, or jog along the Duluth Lakewalk as it follows the northern shore of Lake Superior. Popular restaurants within a five-minute walk include the famous Grandma's Saloon & Grill and Grizzly's Wood-Fired Grill. Duluth International Airport is a 15- to 20-minute drive away. Parking at the inn is free and easy.
Rooms
Contemporary decor, whirlpools or fireplaces in some rooms; patio or balcony in all rooms
The inn's 174 rooms are tastefully decorated with dark-wood furniture and neutral color palettes. Bed runners and throw pillows add a pop of muted color to the otherwise white beds. Amenities in all rooms include flat-screen TVs, lounge chairs or sofas, iHome clock radios, mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. Some king rooms have whirlpools near the bed, and some rooms have fireplaces. Bathrooms consist of shower/tub combos and an exterior vanity with a sink. All rooms have balconies or patios, and views are of the city, lake, lift bridge, or indoor pool. Binoculars are provided for free for viewing lake activity.
Features
Indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, hot tub, free breakfast buffet
Features are limited here, though there are some unexpected extras for an inn. A long indoor pool is suitable for swimming laps, and multiple windows allow natural light to enter the three-story space. Poolside chairs give plenty of spots for lounging. There's also a hot tub and sauna. Guests in first-floor pool-view rooms can walk right out of their rooms to the pool. A small game room beside the pool helps keep kids entertained, and a little gift shop by the check-in desk sells toys, sundries, snacks, and souvenirs. The rooftop pool is heated, but it's surrounded on three sides by walls that obstruct the view. In the mornings, a free breakfast buffet offers hot and cold items. Specialty coffee is available throughout the day and free s'mores are served in the evening. Wi-Fi is fast and free throughout the property. A fitness center provides the standard equipment for those who want to keep active.
