A 2013 renovation transformed this hotel's interiors into a showcase of chic, contemporary design, without forgetting a few homey touches. The riverfront location in central Dublin is superb, with most of the city center within walking distance. Rooms also have an uber-modern aesthetic, and include impressive tech to match. A few don't have external windows, though. The restaurant, dining room, and bar are also interesting spaces worth spending some time in. It's not the cheapest option, however, so if quirky contemporary is your thing, compare rates with The Morgan the other side of the river.
Scene
Hushed, contemporary chic with a warm welcome cookie
Two large glass doors of this hotel's smart and relatively unassuming facade lead into a wonderfully calm and modern lobby. The reception area manages super-chic contemporary without the chill -- a low-profile seating area in plum and silver invites guests to recline and relax, while fresh flowers and warm cookies on guests' arrival give the place a welcoming, homey feel. Clean lines and futuristic furnishings make way to plump leather armchairs and Asian antiques and art pieces, while song lyrics on elevator walls point to the hotels musical theme and focus. The courtyard garden outdoors, with its sleek furniture and patio heaters, is just as chic. The hotel attracts a mixture of corporate and leisure guests, while the occasional celebrity sighting isn't unheard of.
Location
Located on central Dublin's Ormond Quay overlooking the River Liffey
The hotel is located along central Dublin's trendy Ormond Quay overlooking the River Liffey. Most of the city's attractions are within walking distance -- the lively Temple Bar area, with its numerous bars and restaurants, is located just across the river, while the well-known Jervis Street Shopping Centre and Henry Street shopping area are practically on the hotel's doorstep. The Jervis Street Luas stop is directly behind the hotel, providing easy access to both of the city's train stations, the O2, IFSC, and the Convention Centre.
Rooms
Super-contemporary design with amenities to match
Sleek, modern rooms are decorated in a crisp white finish with neon accents, clean lines, and song lyrics on the walls. In-room tech features are suitably snazzy, and include 40" HD televisions, free Wi-Fi, and an 'On Air' interactive system that allows guests to stream to the TV from their own devices. Neat and clean bathrooms have walk-in showers or shower/tub combos, and robes and slippers are provided. All double rooms have king-size beds, though might be a little on the firm side for some. Rooms facing the river have nice views, but noise can be an issue for those rooms, as well as ones overlooking the courtyard.
Features
Smart and funky bar where guests can choose the music
Breakfast is served each morning in the spacious and quirky Halo dining room, while meals are served throughout the day at the hotel's Morrison Grill Restaurant. Quay 14 is the hotel's smart, funky bar which offers an extensive cocktail list and a 'Secret DJ' app where guests can control the music in the bar with their smartphones. There is also a two-level fitness room for guests and a business center and tastefully decorated meeting rooms. Parking is not available on-site, though there is a car park nearby.
