Jacob's Inn is a lively and friendly hostel with modern, colorful interiors. Several common areas of this property, including reception, the dining area, and the communal kitchen were renovated in 2016 and have a trendy feel. In the reception area, there are bright orange and yellow couches and a hip-looking coffee counter selling brew from a local Dublin roaster. An electric fireplace, beanbag chairs, a large flat-screen TV, and vending machines with drinks and snacks complete the fun space. Funky black-and-white illustrations decorate lime-green walls in the dining room. The rooftop terrace has a pared-down industrial vibe. Most guests are backpackers, including solo travelers who comment favorably on the atmosphere here. Families and groups of tourists on a budget also stay at the hostel.

North of the River Liffey, close to Connolly Station and the airport
This hostel is located north of the River Liffey and is within walking distance of most sights in Dublin. However, the hostel is not located in the heart of it all -- the popular Temple Bar area, for instance, is about 15 to 20 minutes' walk away. The hostel is also just a couple of minutes' walk from Connolly Station, a transportation hub with buses and trains arriving from throughout Ireland. A Luas tram stop is also within a few minutes walk for easy access to the rest of the city. St. Patrick's Cathedral is a half-hour walk or 18 minutes by tram. Dublin Castle is a 15-minute tram ride or 22-minute walk. Trinity College, home to the Book of Kells, is only 11 minutes' walk. The area around the hostel can feel a little dodgy at times, but there are several other hostels as well as bars, restaurants, and shops in the neighborhood. A large grocery store is within 10 minutes' walk. Dublin Airport is about 30 to 35 minutes away by bus or tram.

Room options include private Twin and Triple Rooms with en-suite bathrooms. Dorms range from four-bed private dorms with private en-suite bathrooms to 12-bed mixed dorms with shared bathrooms. Shared bathrooms feature mirrors, showers, toilets, shaving sockets, and sinks. Guests report that rooms and bathrooms are consistently clean. Children under age 16 can only stay in private rooms.
