Fairmont The Palm is a swanky palatial landmark located on the trunk of Dubai's exclusive Palm Jumeirah archipelago with easy access to the mainland and a seriously impressive private beach. All the first-class facilities you'd expect are present and correct, including four swimming pools and an excellent spa. While all rooms have balconies, only higher category rooms guarantee sea and city views, and some look out over a busy road. The Fairmont offers a genuine taste of high-class Dubai -- with the premium price tag to match, but guests may not appreciate the expensive drinks and hefty fee for Wi-Fi.
Scene
Grand palatial splendor overlooking impressive swathe of sandy beach
Fairmont The Palm opened at the end of 2012, its imposing palatial presence instantly distinguishing itself as one of Palm Jumeirah's landmark luxury hotels. Stepping into the lobby, the hotel's grandeur continues with aplomb, with tall, majestically arched ceilings and dozens of Mashrabiya (carved latticework) motifs reflected in mirror-like polished stone floors to create the ambience of a grand and refined Arabian palace. The Fairmont also presides over a seriously impressive swathe of sandy beach, which is as meticulously presented as the hotel's interiors and has a vista that stretches over the glass-like waters to Dubai's cityscape silhouette beyond.
Location
Set on trunk of exclusive Palm Jumeirah, with relatively easy mainland access
The Fairmont is situated on the main trunk of Dubai's iconic Palm Jumeirah, one of two palm-shaped artificial archipelagos built out into the Arabian Gulf. Unlike many other hotels on the outer crescents of the palm, the hotel's location means relatively easy access to mainland Dubai, with tourist attractions such as the Mall of the Emirates and Burj Khalifa within a 20-minute drive. The Dubai Marina development is just 10 minutes away by car, while Dubai International Airport is a half-hour drive away.
Rooms
Spacious rooms, many with large balconies and Dubai skyline views
The Fairmont's 381 spacious rooms are decorated in a clean, contemporary style with plenty of traditional Arabic flavor created by numerous examples of Mashrabiya latticework. In-room amenities are suitably high-end, including 40-inch flat-screen TVs, espresso machines, and high-speed Wi-Fi -- though it is expensive. All rooms extend to spacious, furnished balconies, and Fairmont View and Fairmont Deluxe Rooms offer views of the water and the Dubai skyline. Some rooms, however, face the road and experience traffic noise when the windows are open, making water-facing rooms doubly preferable.
Features
Four swimming pools with separate family pool and (pricey) poolside service
The hotel's beach area is unusually large by Dubai standards and includes abundant deck chairs, daybeds, and parasols, along with a couple of ping-pong tables. It looks out over the water to the city skyline. A great selection of restaurants and lounges offer menus including Brazilian Churrasco, Chinese fine dining, and fresh seafood, while the Cigar Room features a walk-in humidor and malt whiskies. There are four outdoor swimming pools -- one specifically for families -- offering plenty of lounge chairs and poolside service, though drinks can be pricey. The Willow Stream Spa is a real highlight, with 13 treatment rooms, separate-sex steam baths, aromatherapy saunas, and an impressive range of massage treatments.
For those willing to pay a little more, the Fairmont Gold offers a more exclusive experience, which includes private express check-in and access to the Fairmont Gold Lounge, with a chef station, a full breakfast buffet, evening drinks, and the best vantage point in the hotel for soaking up the superb views.
